page 7 Petition John Shaffer & Nick Pas- tura Students at Penn State Mont Alto are making their opinions about the English Program’s closure known. Several students from a di- verse number of majors came together to collect 300 signatures for a peti- tion. The petition was de- veloped and written by Mont Alto Junior Coty Cov- ert. Students collected sig- natures by going door to door in the residence halls and approaching students .in common areas. The sig- natures include six profes- The petition is going to be sent with a letter to Univer- sity President Rodney Er- ickson and Vice President of Commonwealth Campus- es Madlyn Hanes urging them to reverse the deci- sion. When questioned about the students’ efforts, Chancellor David Gnage expressed that he was en- couraged and pleased that students are taking an active role. The students hope that if they send a clear message to the University Admin- istration that they can Volleyball (cont.) Overall this season came with some highs and lows; here are some personal highlights of the season. Freshman outside hit- ter, # 8 Olivia Murphy-Sweet, hit a .700 hitting percentage. during the home match against Schuylkill with 8 kills and 1 error on 10 attempts. # 9 Ash- lyn Blank, a freshman outside hitter from Chambersburg, PA, had a double-double at both games during the quad match. Against Greater Allegheny she racked up a total of 20 kills and 10 digs and against Beaver she had 15 kills and 10 digs. # 2, freshman Gretchen Robin- son, an outsider hitter, reached a personal best of 6 aces during the home match against Schuylkill. A senior middle hitter #7, Megan Brown, had her best game against Greater Allegheny putting down 5 kills and hitting at .263 percent along with 1 assist and 1 block. From Philadelphia, PA, sopho- more middle hitter # 15, Rage- na Johnson had a great game against Schuylkill landing a total of 2 kills and 3 aces. #3 Chandler Coldsmith, the team’s libero, leads our team in digs, her best game was at York came out on top with 40 digs. From Mechanicsburg, PA freshman # 13, Chai Kline, hit a .818 hitting percentage against Wilkes-Barre with 9 kills on 11 attempts. She also leads the team in blocking. # 12 Mary Hackney a right side hitter, had an overall great game against Beaver with 23 From Biglerville, PA, sopho- more setter #4, Katrina Oyler, leads the team in assists. Her best game was against Greater Allegheny with 37 assists, 19 digs, and 4 kills. Assistant coach Aaron Hurley said, “I have always believed that if a team has the mindset to win and succeed on the court, the skill will fall into place.” Both coaches knew that participating in playoffs was a long shot, but they never doubted the ladies ability to strive for excellence and make the top eight. The MA ladies remained confident, and their determination helped them make the USCAA playoffs. In regard to the playoffs, Stremmel added “Experience is huge in the conference and you need a .500 record to be considered for playoffs and then they only take the top eight teams.” Hurley is most proud of the ladies ability to play the mental game of volleyball, not just one filled with physical sk He also said that “the Pe College game was the m thrilling game for me beca that’s where the fans witness a team that was not afraid fight!” Although each win ¢ each loss sent the coaches an emotional rollercoaster, ¢ game in particular stands out Stremmel. Commenting on the York v ° on October 3, 2012, Stremr says that she “truly felt t this was the first time the g played not only as a team, | a team thriving on confider as well.” Now, the team calls the selves the Cinderella team 1 cause they were not expec! to accomplish this much. I gena Johnson comments on * end of the season stating “I glad about the way we ca together as a team and h much I grew as a player.”
