The Fourth Wall page 7 Dear Ms. Lion... Dear Ms. Lion, Last semester didn't go as well for me as I thought it would. I really tried to keep up in my studies, but everything got to be too much for me to handle. I couldn't figure out anything to really keep myself on track and it was just far too hard for me to fix on my own. The prob- lem was starting to feel like it was just too overwhelming with no answers in sight. Do you have any tips to help me succeed? Thanks, Underachieving 02% I can understand the frustration that comes with wanting to do well, but having your studies slip away from you. Just trying to get back on track with projects and homework can be a handful, but the answers are always easier than you think. Dear Underachieving, First, when it comes to having class issues, I suggest trying to write due dates in a planner. If you have the due dates visible to see every- . day, it becomes much easier to remember when to do your work and to find a good time to get projects done with enough time to fix any mistakes. If time management isn't your issue, but the class content itself, might I suggest the Academic Support Center? While it may seem like a weakness to ask for help, if you truly need the help to understand the course information and you don't feel comfortable asking the teacher for help, the ASC is the best place to go. The ASC tutors are students at the school, just like you, who know how hard it can be to be in your shoes and want nothing more than to help yo succeed. Second, why not ask your friends? Yes, they have their own lives to lead and their own problems to solve, but if you don't ask for their help you can't know that they can or cannot help you. Most of the time a good friend will want to help you anyway they can. Lastly, you can try just talking to your teachers directly. While this answer can seem the scariest choice, depending on your teacher, it is always a good move. Every teacher has office hours and teachers are there for your use anyways. Their entire job is to help you learn, so why not help them to do that job? If you can't understand the material in class, some one on one talking can sometimes clear up the simplest of problems. While the answers may seem uselessly easy, they really do work if you just try them. Your success comes down to you. If you don't try, you can't succeed. So just believe in your ability to do well this se- mester and you will find you can do much more than you thought you could.
