Spring 2010 Features Page 5 Scratch Track By Evan Nelson BM 1f you would have stepped foot in the Mill at 8pm on January 21 then you would have heard the sounds of the underground band, Scratch Track. I recently received a chance to have a chat with the 2006 Campus Activities Magazine "Brightest Ris- | ing Star" award winners. van: What are your real names? Scratch Track: Our names are Jason and DJ. (Insert picture) Evan: What is with the name Scratch Track? Jason: Scratch track is a recording term. | Evan: Can you repeat it so a non-rhythmic person can understand? Jason: Yea man! It is pretty much the basic idea of a song. We chose the name be- cause we have a sort of stripped down unique style of music that reminds us of a scratch track. Evan: Interesting! Where are you guys from? DJ: We are a band based in Kansas City, Missouri. Evan: There is another city in Missouri than St. Louis? How did you guys meet? DJ: Yep we regularly play in Kansas City. We meet at Union College in Tennessee. We were music majors who just liked to rock out, and we just came together. Evan: Who were some of your musical inspirations growing up? DJ: Johnny Cash, Michael, Metallica, The Roots. We listen to and respect a ton of music. Jason: Yea man, from Metal to Rap to Gospel, we love it all! Evan: What are some words to describe your sound? I would say your sound is like if Jay Z, Radiohead, and the Naked Cowboy had two love children then you guys would be those two children. Jason: Thanks man! I love The Naked Cowboy! We can’t put a label on our sound because it is so unique. { | Evan: Amen! What was your guys most memorable tour? ; DJ: Probably, playing over seas for the troops or my personal f favorite the Japan show. ¢ Evan: Why Japan? Jason: It’s Japan! What more can I say! Evan: If you could give inspiring artists any advice, what would it be? : Jason: Never give up on your dreams and just keep trying! Evan: That was quite motivational! Now, I have to ask this ques- tion. What’s it like to get groupies? DJ: It’s awesome. I have intercourse five times a night to six dif- ferent women. Jason: I don’t know. I just make love with my glove. DJ: You better not put any of this in the paper. Evan: I won’t. Trust me guys I’m a doctor. : Jason (right) and DJ (Left) posing for fans after their performance Jason: Your going to put this in the paper aren’t you. Evan: Yes sir! Well, thank you guys for coming out! Scratch Track: No problem! We love to perform and make sure you pick up our CD: The Legend i Wild Bill in stores and on ITunes now! ll That is exactly what this reporter did. I recently purchased and listened to the Album: The Legend of Wild Bill. Although there are some good songs on this album, such as, The Call; Over (Don’t Care), and One of those Days, the twelve song album sounds a little repetitive. I would defiantly check out some songs on ITunes, but this is why this doctor must give The Legend of Wild Bill, : Two Nit- tany Lions out of Five. fro Spt i
