During this time en- gine builders, race car drivers, and race fans are all anticipating the first races of the seasons. Anticipa- “edge of seat” action from the final race of the last season. Within a short drive of Mont Alto, people have a number of op- tions of racetracks to which to see high caliber dirt track racing. One option one could choose is Hagers- town Speedway. Located about ten minutes from the Valley Mall, Hagerstown Speedway is about an hour drive from Mont Alto and worth every minute and a little more. This track hosts some of the most exciting races one could see on a Saturday night. Two very fa- mous attractions this track hold are the World of Outlaws Series and a three day Monster truck event. For both of these events the track is prepared in special ways to suit the series it hosts. In a typical racing situation the Hagerstown Speed- way is a half mile oval, which is the largest of the tracks around the Saturday night, Hagerstown § Speedway is a great option to choose. dirt track racing can be found on ley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run, Pennsylvania about an hour drive from Mont Alto. This track plays hosts to a number of cars, late models and legends. The high banked, dirt oval. Since the other dimensions, the races are ran in close knit packs of cars lined up nose to tail two lanes wide. Thus the Path Valley Speedway has: some of the closest race results in the area. Path Valley Speedway is another great option to satisfy that dirt racing itch. Hill Valley Speedway i is also a quarter mile speedway that some interesting racing can happen. An example of this can be proven at the top of the points;- Rodney Walls, two year champion was leading the point’s race at the time and his primary racecar’s motor stopped running. Having a close points chase, Walls could not af- ford a did not finish on his point record, so he piloted his brother, the cars that race on this track get so much grip at times they take with great racing, just outside the gate is a great place to eat known as the Shamrock Inn. Finally, Shippensburg Speed- way is the lasts dirt track in the small surrounding area on Mont Alto. Shippensburg Speedway is only 1/5 mile long, making it the smallest race track in the area that is still in operation. With Ship- pensburg being so small some lo- cal racers do not like the track be- cause the cars race so close to- gether. One bad thing for racers makes lots of good racing action for the fans with many races being lengthened due to cautions. Ship- pensburg Speedway plays host to a very unique racing series, the Slick can be summed up in a phase like “rolling demo derby”. While lined up the cars are parked and awaiting the drop of the green flag, when the green flag drops the cars slip and slide down to turn one. The cars race for 20 minutes and whoever completes the most laps wins. Shippensburg Speedway might be the smallest but that does When choosing a local dirt track to go to, Shippensburg Speedway is one of four great choices. With the weather becoming nicer, one might want to get out and go outside, and going to see a dirt race is an excellent way of do- ing so. If a person is into racing one owes it to oneself to go and enjoy a night of dirt track racing, whether one would choose Hagers- town, Path Valley, Hill Valley, or even Shippensburg Speedways, it is almost a guarantee that great times will be had at the races.
