Stress leads to anger, which leads to missed worked, | which evidently leads to poor grades. Everyone has their “off” days, where one does not want to roll out of bed. But don’t let anger take over your life. Learn how to take that breather during the day. The tiring work load that school has to offer can eas- ily be looked past. Simple BY KATIE WARCHOLAK Staff Writer I had never really been into bands with girl lead singers, fearing they were just carbon copies of one another, or some Donnas or another horrendous all-chick, power pop band with- out any originality...or skill for that matter. Then again, that was when I still listened to the radio, and MTV actually played music. After discovering my love for the indie and alternative rock scene several years ago, friends of mine began to tune me in to Rilo Kiley, a Los An- geles based band formed in 1995. After listening to Under the Black Light, the band’s most recent addition to the impres- sive list of releases, I swore to never judge a band by its cover ever again. [ literally played the very sad day. With the mixed reviewed September 2008 release of Rilo Kiley front woman Jenny Lewis’s solo album Acid Tongue, 1 naturally had to check it out for myself. After playing it through twice, I fell in love with each and every one of her more matured, realist tone that goes along with the maturing The first thing I noticed was how much her sound has changed since Jenny Lewis Drops Solo Acid Tongue fronting Rilo Kiley. I expected to hear more of the upbeat side of depressing music that Rilo Kiley does so well. But this album cuts deep down to Lewis’ core. She shows more of her southern folk roots than she does with Rilo Kiley, while still keeping her softened “he loves me, he loves me not” approach. § Acid Tongue definitely is refreshing for its originality but also is very unique from her previous work, even when she collaborated with The Watson Twins. Tracks like ‘Pretty Bird’ 3 and ‘Black Sand’ show her hy seemingly undiscovered re- pressed side through the lyrics, while still managing to capti- vate with her folky vocal rips. The beginning of the album gives you a sort of hippie chick, coffeechouse-esque impression. As you listen on through Acid to change. I almost thought I when I heard The Next Messiah, which featured The Black Keys’ Chris Robinson, and She & Him’s Zooey Deschanel. As an avid lover of Robinson and The Black Keys, this track was my totally biased favorite de- spite the somewhat southern twang. By the end of the al- bum, the music again changes with the swap of guitar strings for piano keys and soft beats in Godspeed. The last track Sing a Song for Them also has an aura of Vanessa Carlton-like piano, Cold, wind season bring on hibernation BY ALEX HAGANS Staff Writer the arrypage.com but then comes back and sur- prises with a strong sweeping electric feel which makes the song a powerful ending to a tonic solo record. All-in-all, I give this release a nine out of ten, and recommend it as a great album to do homework, fall asleep, or do just about any- thing else to; enjoyable, mel- low, and easily able to be re- played over and over. the date winter ends. The cold and windy season has begun when it is constantly cold and windy outside. It has started when you do not have to watch the news to know that-you need a heavy coat on to go out- side. It ends when instead of wearing your heavy coat, hat, and gloves you just wear a light jacket. The cold and windy season changes people’s mindset. Now that it is cold outside you might think twice about going to the hall from the gates or vice versa. You may notice that the dorms are quieter and more relaxed as opposed to-the spring and sum- mer when people are energetic and loud. It is the cold and windy season that forces the brains of students without cars who are forced to walk from place to place to think it sure would be nice to have a car right about now. For these people who are not feeling the cold and windy season love, I suggest that you bundle up and find a friend with a car be- cause this season is a long season and no one knows when it will end. The cold and windy season has gone into full effect! If you look around, you will see that things have changed. The cold and windy season does not have a specific date on when it begins and it does not have a specific date on which it ends. It does not start when fall starts because it is not immediately cold on Septem- ber 23 which is the beginning fall date. It does not end when winter ends because it is not immedi- ately warm on March 19 which is
