On Sunday February 25, 2007,
were held in Los Angeles,
California.
This year’s Academy Awards
were hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.
Ellen was a great host for the event,
she kept the audience laughing and
certainly on their toes. The show
was very lively and ecstatic. The
most surprising parts of the night
came when the brilliant director
Martins Scorsese finally won an
Oscar for “Best Director.” The
Director won for his movie, The
Departed. This ended Scorsese’s
run of being shut out for “Best
Director”, after several previous
attempts. The Departed also took
home the Oscar for “Best Picture.”
The former American-Idol reject,
Jennifer Hudson, won an Oscar for
to her brilliant performance in the
movie Dreamgirls. Even former
Vice- President Al Gore took home
an Oscar for his ground breaking
documentary, An Inconvenient
Truth. Not only did former Vice-
President Al Gore win an Oscar, but
he also had one of the funniest
moments . of the night. He
and his plans to run for the 2008
Presidency. Helen Mirren took
home the Oscar for “Best Actress”
for her performance in The Queen.
One of the most surprising wins of
all probably. came when Forest
Whitaker won the best actor Oscar
for his sensational performance in
The Last King of Scotland.
~The night was filled with
laughter and enjoyment. All of the
winners were greatly deserving of
their awards. We will now have to
wait until next year to see who will
bring home the highest honor. of
Hollywood; one of those wonderful
golden statuettes.
