play. On the final play of the
game Michigan scored a
touchdown to seal the win and
hand Penn State its first loss of
the season.
Although the scoreboard
showed a Penn State loss, there
are other sides to the story.
Michigan caught a break when
head coach Lloyd Carr
demanded the officials put two
seconds back on the game
clock after he called a timeout.
It was these two seconds that
gave Michigan quarterback
Chad Henne the time he
needed to find a receiver open
for the winning touchdown.
Not only did Penn State suffer
a last second loss, they also lost
Williams, their biggest
playmaking receiver for the
season, to a broken arm.
The best teams can bounce
back from heartbreaking losses
such as JoePa and the boys
suffered in Ann Arbor. The
following week Penn State
bounced back in a big way,
scoring 63 points against a
vulnerable Illinois defense.
Quarterback Robinson scored
6 touchdowns himself, passing
for four and rushing for two
more.
Penn State students are in
awe, watching what Robinson
is capable of. “He can beat you
with his arm; he can beat you
with his legs,” says Mont Alto
student Jared Fissel. “He’s the
leader that can keep it all
together on the field.”
Robinson showed his
running skills on October 29
against Purdue when he
rushed for the first Penn State
touchdown of the game which
gave the Lions a 13-7 lead in
the second quarter. Penn State
went on to win the game 33-
15, pleasing the nearly sold out
homecoming crowd. The win
against Purdue also allowed
Penn State to climb to seventh
in the Bowl Championship
Standings, increasing their
chances to make an appearance
in a bowl game.
Matt Ferrante, a Moni Alto
student who was at the Purdue
game, noticed the increase in
Many students enroll in
Women’s Studies courses at
Mont Alto in order to fulfill
Humanities, Social Sciences, or
Intercultural requirements.
Many are not aware, though,
that we also offer a Women’s
Studies minor at Mont Alto for
students enrolled in four-year
programs. Students who enjoy
the challenges of critical
thought and analytical skills, as
well as the opportunity to
enhance their ability to
understand and explore many
perspectives on an issue, could
benefit from adding the
Women’s Studies minor to
their current curricula. The
minor is also a valuable
addition to students pursuing
careers in law, medicine,
education, public policy,
Three Women’s Studies
courses will be offered in the
Spring 2006 semester: AM ST/
WMNST 104 Women and the
American Experience, REL
ST/WMNST 137 Women and
Religion, and WMNST 301
Introduction to Feminist
Thought. Most Women’s
Studies courses are cross-listed
with other disciplines, hence the
addition of several different
designations to the WMNST
(Women’s Studies) one.

school spirit. “Penn State pride
has always run high in Happy
Valley, but this year since we're
doing so good you see it from
people who wouldn’t normally
care about football.” It’s not
just at University Park either.
On All-U-Day during halftime
the announcer recognized every
Penn State branch campus.
Every time he named a school
it was followed by cheers from
that school’s students who were
at the game: none were as loud
as Mont Alto.

“This time last year not
many people cared about Penn
State football. This year I've
never seen so many people that
do care.” Ferrante has a point.
There are students here that
have gone as far as to shave
PSU into their heads and give
themselves Mohawks, the
bookstore is virtually sold out
of “White Out” t-shirts, and it
is becoming rarer to find a
student here that doesn’t own
a piece of PSU apparel.
School spirit is on the rise
here at Penn State, along with
our football team. All the
playmakers on offense, coupled
with one of the nation’s
toughest defenses has made this
year a comeback season for the
Nittany Lions and one that
could very well see them
winning the Big Ten
championship and returning to
a bowl game. Coach Paterno
and the boys will have the rest
of Penn State behind them,
cheering them on harder than
ever.
