Mat has happened to the school spirit at Highacres ?? It certainely
has fallen by the mSyside somewhere along the line s at least as far as basketball
games atroconcerned % Wednesday night the basketball team (they expect to come out
on top this ysar ) played their fourth home gamed The Keystone team, which traveled
a considerable distance to Hazleton High School s was represented nearly as well:as
the Highacres boys,ln fact Keystone had more students in'attendanoe than we hadi
Of the nearly two hundred students' enrolled at Highacressexactely eleven attended
the game "That must be some kind of a record ( rotten record ) o i, The basketball
team is sponsored out of funds which you yourselves pay s and the games are free s the
distance you must travel is not great: we have a good teamsand they deserve your
support No one is loaded down to the point where they ant spare two hours to watel
a good basketball game. All that can be said at the present time is," Get .3 the
ball fellow students and support the teamP
Their record thus far is impressive; they've lost only one
six s and they are expecting to make that up on their return match Bere

Highacres bows for first time.
Our Penn State Center quintet went down to thier first defeat at the
hands of Johnstown by a heartbreaking score of 65-6 L. This catastrophe happened
a week today at the Hazleton High gym before a pitiful small but spirited group
of followers.
The Pitt center did an effectite job of freezing the ball in the
dying minutes of the game, but our boys tried to get pcssessinn of the ball and
made an intenional foul. A good free throw by a Mitt man made the score 65-62
Johnstown in the lead. Hazleton raced down the court and Bob Boyle set loose
an arching shot that swished through the hoop to pull us within a single tally
64-65. The whistle sounded a few seconds later to end the game.
Norm Hall was high man fob the HUCsters, with Bob Boyle $ Stan
Gruszewski and Clint Frank also hitting the double deckers. Vern Raos showed
some classy floor work. Paul Hammett and Tom Guier were the best bets for the
