MARIE JACKO- —MAY QUEEN
The 9th of May—May Day—one of the most celebrated and honored days
on the Center's calendar, will have as it’s queen lovely*Miss Marie Jacko,
Baughter of Mr* and Mrs. George Jacko, Jeddo, Pa*. Marie is enrolled as a third]
semester Commerce student, and serves as the secretary of the Theta Sigma Pi I
Sorority, a member of the College Arts Society, and a member of Parnassus—
Honor Society here at Highacres ~
With IUO students casting their votes, freshman honors went to Miss
Jean Haegele, daughter of Mr* and Mrs, Justus Haegele, Hazleton, Pa#
Donning her crown on May 9, Queen Marie will reign over the colorful
May Day festivities which will be held on the green garden here at Highacres.
Attending the Queen will be Mary Donish, McAdoo; Catherine Kokinda, Hazleton—
the freshman electives—while Joan Griesing, Ebervale, will sferve as sophomore
attendant'#
Adding to the pomp and ceremony, significant of the May Day -Coronation,
will be the Queen’s Court consisting of Scroll Bearer, Mary Hasara-Freeland;
Key Bearer, Anna Petrushka-Freeland; Heart Bearer, Janice Magavich-Hazleton;
and the Crown Bearer, Elise Kreiger, who hails from Hazleton*
It was also decided by Miss Dißubbo, adviser to the Theta Sigma Pi
Sorority and supervisor of both the election and May Day, that on the approach
leading to the Queen's throne a chain of hemlock will be held by some of the
girls of the Sorority,, Composing the hemlock chain will be: Mary Bissol,
Hazleton; Theresa Flynn, White Haven; Nancy Kibler, Weatherly; Mabel Lewis,
Muhlenburg; Lois Miller, Hazleton; Sally Rarich, Drums; Patricia Tomsho, West
Hazleton; Jane Tressler, Conyngham; Harriet Tulin, Hazleton; and Beverly Wizdo,
who resides in Freelands
Barring complications, the May Day Drown will be placed upon Marie's
head by last hear's May Day' Queen—Josephine Donish, now in nurses training
at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Maryland*
With May Day festivities commencing at 3:30 p#nu, and being highlighted
by the coronation, a mid-afternoon, tea and refreshments will;he served in the
lounge of the Main Building 0 Terminating this day of celebration will be the
May Day Dance held at the Eagles, Laurel St„, Hazleton, sponsored.by„th r e Student
Council and planned by the Student Activity Committee, ; ■
