Tuesday, November 2/, MO Hastings Hitting It BY JOE HASTINGS In time past school spirit has been at a pretty low ebb. But now it seems to be picking up. The first clue to this was the hay-ride. The 150 who went were in high spirits from the beginning, thanks to the moonlight ride, danc ing, and refreshments. Another clue was the "ill-fated" bon-fire. Although Mr. Peyton and the dorm boys had enough timber piled up for a good sized block-house, when the match was put to it, it flared up in a blazing con glomeration of spruce, pine, and maple for only five minutes. But its warmth kindled a song which caught and held. Far into the night the strains of "Nittany Lion" and "Blue and White" could be heard in the valley below. And how about the retaining wall being constructed by the dorm students over at the book store? Isn't there a trace of spirit there? Now don't get me wrong. We don't expect you out there waist deep in a trench swinging a pick or Shovel, but here's what we do want: On Wednesday evening our basketball team opens its season against the Alumni at the A. D. Thomas Memorial Gym. Here's another chance to show that indomitable school spirit. The boys will be out on the floor giving it all they've got. So how about it people?
