With a throng of 12,500 thrilled onlookers witnessing the fray from the bleachers of the University of Washington's Edmundson Pavilion, Kentucky's 6'7" center, Alex Groza, unleashed a one-man attack that re sulted in a triumph for the boys from the mountain state. Besides doing some superb ball -handling Groza hit the nets for 25 important counters. He left the game in the third quarter via the personal foul route. As a re sult of his commendable perfor mance, Alex was voted by attending sportswriters the most valuable in dividual player in the playoffs. The Aggies, who were in the de fensive all night, seemed to handcuff every one of Adolph Rupp's eagers except unstopable Groza. HAZLETON COLLEGIAN , SPORTSTUFF By DICK BAGBY On Saturday, May 14, there will be a golf and tennis tournament held at State College. -All undergraduate centers are invited to compete in these events. If there are any golf ,or tennis enthusiasts who would like to participate in this tournament as representatives of the Hazleton Cen ter, they are asked to contact Syd Rudman as soon as possible. Myron Demcio by defeating George Makuta 3-2 in the finals is the new table tennis champion. His name will be added to those engraved on the permanent intramural trophy. Makuta advanced to the finals by turning in a great perfermance against Pucillo. Some hot competi tion made the tournament a great success and the championship match was the match of all matches. Softball enthusiasts still have until- April 20 to formulate teams for the intramural league. Two or three teams are still needed to complete the league. Rosters have already been submitted to Syd Rudman by three teams: the Engineers, Heights, and. the Warriors. Many times the outcome of an im portant game depended on the con version of a free throw. How easy it looks if one is sitting in the stands; but to the pressed individual who is about to shoot from the foul line, it is an uncomfortable situation. A ner vous glance at the scoreboard, then the shot is away and good; the home team wins by one point. That is the only one occasion when a foul toss paid off. Now the oppor tunity arises to determine just how good one can be at foul shooting in Syd Rudman's latest tournament '— the foul shooting contest. All interested deadeyes are asked to sign the notice on the bulletin board as soon as possible. Monday, April 21, is slated for the starting date. The individual who drops in the best out .of 25 shots, will be pro claimed the hot shot of the center. Every year forecasters throughout the nation step out on a limb to de cide how the sixteen major league teams will wind up.
