Attorney Richard Bigelow of this
city, ~who was admitted to practice
before the Luzerne county courts
laSt year, is instructing a class in
Political Science at the Undergradu
ate Center.
Miss Lois Neifert of Tamaqua has
come from the Pennsylvania State
College to take over Mr. E. Wallace
McMullen's Engl. Comp. 0 and Engl.
Comp. 5 classes. McMullen has re
placed Marion Joy Bonn, former in
structor in Comp. 5 and Lit.
The appointment of the local at
torney to the HUC faculty relieves
a shortage of instructors in the social
science department of the school.
A graduate of Swarthmore, Bige
low taught at the Pennsylvania State
College in 1936-37 where he received
his MA degree. Before acquiring his
Bachelor of Law degree from Dickin
son School of Law, he taught at that
college, and NROTC at Northwest
ern University.
Attorney Bigelow has not only ap
plied his study of Political Science to
teaching, but also his other major,
Law, through his various activities in
government expansion programs.
Among the organizations in which he
participated were the Pennsylvania
Planning Board, the U.S. Depart
ment of Agriculture, and Carlisle,
Pa., Planning and Joining Commis
sion.

ROTC MEMBERS USING
GEISSLER PISTOL RANGE
The management of the Geissler
Knitting Mills, City, has sanctioned
the use of 2 rifle ranges located in
the basement of the establishment,
by the college ROTC for the purpose
of marksmanship training.
The range, designed for the use of
small bore weapons such as twenty
two rifles or pistols, will be used by
the ROTC members on Saturdays.
The first two hour drill was held
last week when Sgt. John Vasko su
pervised the initial ten members of
the sixty-man ROTC.
FISHING COURSE
Thursday, George Harvey, nation
ally-known fisherman, will begin a
six weeks' course at the Broad Street
building for regional anglers.

Intra-Mural Table
Tennis Tournament
Begins Wednesday
Syd Rudman announced this week
end that the Penn Center Intra-Mu
ral Table Tennis Tournament will
begin Wednesday at the local YMCA.
The tournament matches are to be
determined on the standard of the
best two out of three series; however,
the finals will be based on the best
out of five series.
Included in the list of entries to
compete for TThonors are: Jim
Howells, Leo Shulman, Ralph Kline,
Conrad IBalliet, Anita Goldberg,
Charles Wilson, Robert Feeley, John
Meikrantz, Paul Pucillo, Charley ,
Maurer, John Riley, George Mille...
Donald Smith and Bernard Carr.
Mattern, Seibel On
Jr. College Board
Richard Mattern, HUC official, has
been named Secretary-Treasurer of
the Pennsylvania Junior College Ath
letic Association for the ensuing
year. Mattern did much to coordinate
the successful basketball tournament
held in February.
In conjunction with Mattern's po
sition on the board, Mr. Arthur •Sei
bel, HUC publicity director and in
structor of English, has been named
Public Relations manager for the
PJCAA.

There have been twelve new rec
ord albums added to the music room
record library.

CARMELLA LIO, one of, the
young ladies in the Hemlock Chain
in last year's May Queen Program at
HUC, is now located at - the Penn
State Campus majoring in Sociology.
Miss Lio is a member of the Center
and Newman Clubs.
ELINOR MORAWSKI, a member
of the Student Council and a partici
pant in the May Queen Program
during her three semester stay here
at HUC, is now majoring in Science
at the Penn State Campus. Miss
Morawski is a member of the Center
Club at the present time.
KATHRYN "KITTY" YURICK
is continuing her Chemistry course
at the Penn State Campus. Miss.
Yurick was a student for three se
mesters at the HUC.
A note of thanks should be given
to CAROLINE KARCHNER who is
keeping us at HUC very well sup
plied with Alumni News from the
Penn State Campus. Miss Karchner
is active in the Center, Swimming,
aneßifle Clubs at the Campus, took
flying instructions at Bloomsburg,
and toured Mexico last summer.
Knitting, drawing, and Stan Morris
take up all other time not used in
studies or extra-curricular activities.
Riley Named to Dubois
All-Opponent Five
Johnny Riley, captain of HUC's
junior college 1947-48 state champs,
was named to an all-opponent team
picked by Coach . Egli and members
of the Dußois U.C. basketball team.
Others on the first squad were York
Junior College's aces, Bock and
Biros, and Miller and Fisher of
Schuylkill U.C.
Receiving mention for their note
worthy court performances were
"Pistol Pete" Garber and Statz
Laganosky of HUC.
