No. 6 CENTER CLUB CONTEMPLATED HERE SOON Set To Operate After Christmas Holidays As a result of a meeting held last night between a student-faculty com mittee from the Penn State Under graduate Center and officials of the Knights of Columbus, plans were furthered to arrange for the use of the spacious, Knights of Columbus clubrooms by the students of the lo cal junior college. Meeting with Edward Matthews and Atty. Robert Gillespie were Francis Fatsie and Hugh Close, stu dents at the junior college, and Ar thur Seibel and Miss Hilda Lee James, faculty members. As an out come of the meeting it was decided that all students of the junior college would use the Knights' upstairs clubrooms every Wednesday and Fri day evening where patties can be held and dancing enjoyed. A service bar where sandwiches and soft drinks can be procured will be available for the students. The activities carried on by the students will be under the direct supervision of faculty members each night. Group plans call for the establish ment e_T a Student Union Club later, when some approximation of the number of students using the priv ilege can be made. The 'Collegian wishes to deviate from its usual objective presentation of the news and strongly express its wholehearted approval of the sugges tion. Collegian feels that it will fur ther the interests of the social setup at this institution and any action in this respect will receive our unquali fied support. Alumni Dance Xmas Night Alexis Neapoliton, general chairman of the All College Dance to be held in the Hotel Altamont ballroom Christmas night, announced today that the Art Wendel orchestra will sup ply the music for the annual af fair this year. The dance, proceeds of which will go into the Robert E. Eiche Scholarship Fund, is priced at $4.80 per couple and is open to the general public. This annual Christmas event is being spon sored by the Penn State Alumni Association of Hazleton and will be a formal affair. The committee making all ar rangements for the dance in eludes three Penn State Under graduate students: Hugh Close, Frank Lucia and Francis Fatsie. HAZLETON UNDERGRADUATE CENTER, HAZLETON. PA Winners In Billy Rose Contest PATRICIA KRINGE GRACE McBRIDE ‘44. Court Queen Miss Grace Mcßride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Mcßride of 24 North Tamaqua street, McAdoo, has been selected to reign as "Court Queen" at the Penn State Center by Billy Rose, famous New York show ' man and restauranteur. The an nouncement was made after the receipt of a letter from Rose in which he made his decision and add ed his personal congratulations. As alternates, Rose selected Patri cia Kringe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kringe, 122 South Broad street; and Margaret Schwei tzer, 233 South Winters avenue, West Hazleton. The contest to select a Penn State Center "Court Queen" was conducted by "Collegian", the local junior college newspaper. Photo graphs of the girls who competed were sent to the Ziegfeld Theater in New York where Rose is producing a play, and the showman made his selections from the photographs. Miss Mcßride, 19, is a sophomore at the junior college and is studying medical technological theory. She is a member of Omega Chi Tau so rority and a cheer leader at the lcoal school. The new "Court Queen" at tended Immaculate Heart Academy before entering the Undergraduate Center. Alternate Patricia Kringe gradua ted from West Hazleton High School in the class of '46. Majoring in edu cation, Patricia is also a member of Omega Chi Tau, a cheerleader and student delegate to Activities Board. Her hobbies are photography, bowl ing, and dancing. Margaret Schweitzer, second al ternate to the newly-crowned "Court Queen", is also a product of West Hazleton High School, class of '46. Welcome Pottsville Reception Here December 17th It was announced early yesterday that plans for the Welcome Pottsville reception, to be held December 17, at a hall to be announced later, are in the process of formation. The Dramatics Club of the school, under the supervision of Miss Hilda Lee James, are ironing out the last min ute details as we go to press. The reception will follow the bas ketball game between the Pottsville cagemen and our Hazleton Under graduate Center team. A large at tendance is expected and the commit tee is planning a program of varied entertainment. December 6, 1947 International Relations Club To Sponsor Christmas Dance It was announced this week that the International Relations Club will sponsor the annual Christmas Semi forinal, December 18 at the Hotel Altamont. President Joseph Fisher of that organization has appointed the various committees to insure effi cient progress for the event. The Christmas dance has always been one of the highlights of the so cial season at HUC and this year's affair promises to rank high among those given in previous years. Dancing will get under way at 9 p. m. to the music of Art Wendel and his orchestra and will continue until midnight. While there will be no charge to the students for the dance, it is em phasized that matriculation cards will be absolutely necessary for ad mittance. The committees appointed by president Fisher are as follows: Co ordinator Paul Waiting, Band Al Rosen and Aaron Marsh, Decora tions Hugh. Center Faculty Attended Conferences Two members of the Hazleton Un dergraduate Center faculty attended out-of-town meetings during the Thanksgiving holiday just ended. Amos A. Goss, administrative head of the Center, drove to Atlantic City, N. J., where he attended the National Convention of the American Associa tion of Junior Collees. With him were the administrative heads of the Penn State 'Centers located in Pottsville. Altoona and Dubois. Hobson T. Zerbe, instructor in mathematics at the local Junior Col lege, traveled to Philadelphia where he met with other members of the Mathematical Association of Amer ica. The Association's meeting, held Saturday and Sunday, November 29 and 30, featured such prominent speakers as Professor N. J. Fine, University of Pennsylvania; Profes sor V. F. Cowling. Lehigh University; and Professor F. D. Murnaghen, Johns Hopkins University. RADIO PROGRAM THURS. The Language Department of the Hazleton Undergraduate Center will present a radio program Thursday, December 11, featuring as its theme Christmas in other lands. Students of Spanish, French and German will participate. The super vising faculty members are: Miss Edra Stafferi, Miss Helen Dossen bach, Miss Emma Phillips and Miss Pearl Garbrick.
