BILLY ROSE
October 31, 1947
It was learned three hours before
COLLEGIAN went to press that Bil
ly Rose, .proprietor of the famed-
Diamond Horseshoe night club in
New York City, has consented to
judge a contest conducted by COL
LEGIAN to select a "Court Queen"
to reign throughout the 1947-48
basketball season at the Hazleton
Undergraduate Center.
Mr. Rose, remembered for his
promotion of Acquacade at the New
York World Fair and at the Cleve
land Centennial celebration, wrote
that he would be pleased to cooper
ate with COLLEGIAN in an effort to
decide what girl from the Hazleton
Center should reign as "basketball
belle" during the approaching sea
son.
All girls attending the Center are
eligible to compete for the crown. To
become an entrant, each coed in
terested must submit a glossy print
photograph. The photograph should
be brought to the COLLEGIAN office
in the Walnut street building. The
photographs will be sent to Mr. Rose
and his decision, of course, will be
final. All photographs will be re
turned to the owners.
Those girls wishing to compete for
the title "Hazleton Undergraduate
Court Queen" must have their. pho
tographs in the COLLEGIAN office
no later than Friday morning, No
vember 7th.
Mr. Billy Rose, who has graciously
consented to choose a "Court Queen"
from the photographs submitted by
co-eds of the Hazleton Undergradu
ate Center, is a man of many capa
bilities.
For many years his name has been
synonomous with show business, but
in addition to being a successful
showman, he is the author of a daily
syndicated column called "Pitching
Horseshoes", a feature which is in
demand in all cities, towns and ham
lets where newspapers are published.
Though not the holder of the title
at present, Mr. Rose was for several
years the world's fastest typist, and
he still enjoys competing against
other rapid-fire typists.
Not so many seasons ago, Mr. Rose
formed his famous Acquacade unit.
The female star of that spectacular
show was Eleanor Holm, the former
Olympic swimming star. Today Elea
nor Holm is IVirs. Billy Rose.
SOPHOMORE WOMEN TO MEET
There will be a meeting of all the
Sophomore women on Wednesday at
12:30 in the Walnut Street Library.
It will be short but extremely impor
tant.
