Inquiring Reporter June Reinmiller Hopeful rumors have been flying thick and fast about building a bigger and better HUC, but where ? When we asked a few of the students where they thought would be a good location for a new center, we got some excel lent and varied answers. QUESTION: What do you think would be a good site for the new HUC ? John J. Corrigan—"l think a good location would he along the Berwick highway or on the route to Drums where we could have, nice scenery for a campus." Cyril Sernak "A new center should be built where there is plenty of space for a campus, for instance Hazle Park or the , Conyngham Val ley." John, Watro "What's wrong with the Heights ? The Heights will be one of the nicest sections of the city in the future." George Kora "A center in , Conyngham, with a campus, would bring about more unity among the students. Also, like state College, •a center there would offer great possi bilities for a greater Hazleton." John ;Shawarko "Since the Heights seems to be the most prom ising section in Hazleton, I think the new HUC should be built up near the armory." HAZLETON COLLEGIAN FACULTY MEMBERS GO DOM EST I C A recent advertisement in the local newspapers stated that a family leav ing for Florida for the winter would like to rent their six room home. Miss Hilda Lee James wasted little time in getting out to Cranberry Avenue and as- a result of her observations, she and three other feminine members of the facultly are moving in next week. Miss Margaret Liechty, Miss Mary Margaret Wood, and Miss Joy Bonn are going to share this "hacienda" with Miss James. The little household tasks are to be equally divided among the four ambitious young ladies. The duties of the night fireman have not yet been assigned, primarily because none of the four young ladies has ever seen a furnace before. Any sug gestions? Did You Know: That last school year at the HUC the G. I. students on the whole aver aged better than the non-G. I. stu dents ? Let's see this year Who'll come out on top. That way back in 1936 when the RUC was in its infancy, the library consisted of a mere three books which Mr. Pugh, supervisor of the Penn State Undergraduate Centers carried into the IMarkle Bank Building, the first location of the Hug ? During the period of time which has elapsed, it has swelled to the total of 2400 vol umes and in addition receives forty two periodicals and six newspapers. That the Penn 'State campus, filled to the proverbial brim with students, numbers them at 1,500 gals and 6,000 guys ? We're about in the same boat here at HUC with the ratio of 437 males to 37 females. (Then, too, the five very capable office girls can't be left out, by any mean s.) That the week of September 22, 1947 will long be remembered by the .HUIC freshmen? After all, they did fill out an undeterminable number of forms, and signed their names to them no less than TWENTY-SIX times. 'That the four undergraduate cen ters have twenty percent of the whole Penn State student enroll- ment ? In the HUC we have a larger en rollment at present (474) than our parent university had in its first half century of operation? That 2100 degrees have been con ferred by the college at commence ment exercises held since the first of the year? —George N.
