He spoke on the causes of present International conflict. '‘''--.j Mr. Puhak said; "The people did not i know that the armistice was only a brief j period of peace, and not the end of the j War, " | Armistice Day Speech According to him, the cause of this War and that of the First World War was economic inequality, Man himself is seek ing the Almighty dollar and doesn't care very much what happens to his neighbor, - as long as he himself succeeds* He also stated, " that science today is far ahead of politics, because science can produce for all and is totally good for all while politics is only good for a few, " Mr. George Puhak was graduated from Diclcfenson College and is very active in local affairs. He is chairman of the Republican Party's Campaign Committee, and received from the Chamber of Commerce of which he is a member, a plaque for his efforts in the Industrial Drive of ig4l. Mr. Puhak is also an active mem ber of the American Red Cross and the Community Chest, Forecasting The Hazleton Undergraduate Center of the Pennsylvania State College, will hold its annual Thanksgivng Dance at the Hotel Altamont on Tuesday evening* November 25th. A band will be engaged for this occas ion. Student with one guest will be ad mitted fred of charge; all others will be charged one dollar per couple. Further arrangements will be announced later. ' ■ »*, - %y s—j&ty Uo'iu i \r^i\ U- S~“ national Defense Training During the past ten months, the Penn sylvania State College has established many courses to train persons for the defense industries, l'he Hazleton Under -1 graduate Center has taken part in two of •these courses, and it is now engaged in a third. In this defense training the Renter and its faculty have taken a lead ing part. The first of these courses, Engineering Defense Training, was started in January ;and completed late in the spring. Mr. Carpel and Mr. Morgan, formerly of this Canter, were the district representatives of the Oentat** Mr. Herpel was also the head of the program at the Center. Among •'the* instructors were Mr. Isenberg, Hr. Thorpe, and Dr.Keift. Boh Byorick and Walt Aptulsky, both freshmen, were among the 120 students who took advantage of this training. The second of these training courses w.is a course of! introductory engineering subjects. Mr. Brentin was the administra tive head of this summer program, and he had among his faculty Mr. Isenberg and to. Thorpe, Dr, Keift was not an instruc tor for this course, but was on tour as ’one of the lecturers of a mobile chemis try demonstration.
