Instructor Is Moved Here; Others New to Center Work Five new faculty members have been added this year to the staff of the Hazleton Undergraduate Center, thus bringing the staff to tal to ten and tripling its size since the Center was first established here five years ago. Four of the newcomers are be ginning their association with the Penn State undergraduate centers but Mr. Roy E. Morgan, the new assistant administrative head comes here after four years of experience in Center work. Prior to his rtansfer to the Hazleton Center he served for three years on the Dußois Undergraduate Center staff and during his first year with the centers was located at Pottsville. The other new members on this year’s faculty are: Miss Dorothy K. Muck, instructor of English composition and speech; Miss Edna M. Saby, instructor of history and political science; Mr. Nicholas M. Brentin, instructor of French and English composition; and Mr. Her- (Continued on page 4) Mr. Stover Speaks To Hocus-Focussers Mr. Guy Z. Stover, head of the Penn State Photo shop, was guest speaker at the opening meeting of the Hocus-Focus Club, the H.U.C. camera enthusiasts’ organization, held at the Center Monday night. Mr. Stover does 85 per cent of the photographic work at the Col lege, and for the past fourteen years the Penn State Photo Shop has done all the photographic work for “La Vie,” the official Penn State yearbook. The speaker pointed out that the most successful photographers and those who produce prize-winning photographs are amateurs. This group is so large that it supplies (Continued on page 4) Robert E. Eiche Former Head Comes Back to ‘Old Homestead f Mr. Robert E. Eiche, former ad ministrative head of the Hazleton Undergraduate Center and now administrative head at the new Altoona Center, will pay his first official visit to his “old homestead’’ this week-end when he comes here to attend the Inter-Center Student Council Conference. Both he and Mr. T. Stewart Goas, formerly a member of the Hazleton Center faculty and now assistant administrative head at Altoona, will accompany the Al toona Council delegation to the conclave. It was under the direc tion of these two former H.U.C. faculty members that the local student government organization was set up. H.U.C. Women To Give Tea For Alumni Association The women of the Hazleton Un dergraduate Center will serve a tea on Saturday afternoon, Octo ber 28, at the Y. W. C. A., for the wives of the faculty members and women members of the Alumni Association. This will be the first social event under the auspices of the newly organized Center Wo men’s Club. Thanksgiving Recess Begins on Nov. 22 Thanksgiving vacation at the Hazleton Undergraduate Center will officially begin at 12:30 o’clock on Wednesday, - November 22, and continue until 8 o’clock Monday morn ing, November 27, according to the announcement of Mr. Coleman Herpel, administra tive head. This year’s vacation is of the same duration as last year’s, and will be celebrated in accordance with the new date proposed in President Roosevelt’s Thanksgiving Center Is Host To Conclave of Student Heads Dinner and Dance Is Social Highlight On 2-Day Program The Hazleton Undergraduate Center student council and stu dent body play hosts today and to morrow at the fourth annual Inter- Center Student Council Confer ence at which time representatives of the four other undergraduate centers of the Pennsylvania State College will come here to discuss their mutual problems in a two-day conference. Sixteen student representatives —four each from the Altoona, Du- Bois, Fayette, and Schuylkill cen ters—will arrive here Friday noon for the opening of the conference. Following their registration at the Center building, they will be wel comed at a luncheon meeting to be held at Walter’s Tea Room. The organization meeting of the conference is to be held at 2:30 o’clock Friday afternoon in the Center library; this will be fol lowed by several sectional meet ings. The purpose of the confer ence is to allow representatives of (Continued on page 4) Increased Number Enrolled at H.U.C. A total of 119 students are en rolled for the present year at the Hazleton Undergraduate Center, making this the largest enrollment that the Center has ever had, ac cording to the announcement of Mr. Coleman Herpel, administra tive head. When the Center was organized in 1934, 36 students enrolled for the first year. Since that time, the enrollment has gradually increased until it has reached its present peak. The Center has now its maxi mum enrollment, according to Mr. Herpel, and unless some provisions are made for enlarging the quar ter, no increase in enrollment will be possible.
