The curious have been inquiring
about pur column heading. We
refer all questions to the depart
ment of mathematical information,
where they discover that the curi
ous symbolism (h,k) is a common
notation for the center of a geo
metrical locus.
The Venn State Collegian was
recently awarded first class honor
rating at the nineteenth conference
of the Associated Collegiate Press
All American Critical Service.
Competing among 401 collegiate
papers from forty-six states, the
District of Columbia, and Hawaii,
the Penn State paper was surpassed
by only five others in the nation.
Among the center news sheets
the palm for the year undoubtedly
goes to the DUC for general ex
cellence. The Hazleton Collegian
expects to get back in the running
now that the mimeographed format
has been discarded.
The Student Government As
sociation of the Fayette Center has
established a collegiate scholarship
carrying a stipend of fifty dollars
a year. The award will be made to
a deserving freshman on the basis
of a competitive examination this
June.
Dußois’ May Queen started a
movement here for May King—a

movement which quickly died. We
are looking forward to the day
when enough girls are enrolled at
Hazleton to make possible so pleas
ant a ceremony as the crowning of
a May Queen.
The annual dinner-dance at
Schuylkill comes early this year on
June 2 at the Schuylkill Country
Club. That ought to be a good re
laxation before exams —if you can
relax at such a time.
Exhibit In Library
For the past two weeks eleven
water colors and one pastel sketch
have drawn interested observers to
the library. The artist, Miss Ruth
M. Koch, teacher of art in the
Grant Street Public School, studied
at Penn State with Prof. Andrew
W. Case, and has since found her
art an absorbing hobby. Miss Koch
has exhibited in several eastern
cities and recently hung several
of her works in the exhibition of
local artists at the Hazleton Pub
lic Library.
The favorable comment on the
exhibition both from the student
body and from the visitors at the
recent open house will ensure a
repetition of art exhibitions of this
sort, according to Mr. Melvin W.
Isenberg, Instructor in Engineering
and Freehand Drawing, who ar
ranged for the showing.

Faculty Summer Plans
The members of the Center fac
ulty have a busy summer planned
for themselves. Mr. Eiche, Admin
istrative Head, will be in his office
to interview prospective students
and their parents. Two members
of the faculty plan to teach in
Penn State summer sessions. Mr.
Goas will teach medieval and
American history on the campus,
and Mr. Janssen, sociology and pol
itical science at the Teacher Train
ing Session in Altoona. Two others
will pursue advanced work in their
respective fields. Mr. Kieft will
continue work on his doctoral
thesis at the Penn State campus,
and Mr. Isenberg will go to Harv
ard to enroll in a fine arts course.
Mr. Shetler was either reticent or
uncertain concerning his summer
plans. After their marriage, Miss
Yotter and Mr. Herpel will travel
to an unannounced destination.

Always The Best
Council Reorganizes
Student Council at its first meet
ing in May voted to increase its
officers from three to four. The
office of secretary-treasurer had
become so heavy a responsibility
that Council amended Article VI,
Section 1 of the student govern
ment constitution to read, "The
officers of the Student Council
shall be (a) President, (b) Vice-
President, (c) Secretary, (d) Treas
urer.” This change will become
effective at the organization of the
council next year.
