Campus Highacres By Michele Labour All to often credit is not endowed upon those who truly deserve it. The purpose of this feature is to acknowledge those who are routinely overlooked. Have you ever won dered who you would ask for directions of the campus and surrounding area? That is the purpose of this article, for the Highacres Collegian to give high regard to Rosemary Mandrick! As you walk in the doors of the Adminis tration Office you see the smiling face of Rosemary, the campus’ receptionist, to greet you and help you with whatever you need. Rosemary was first employed as a part time cook in the Dining Hall for a year and half. When she heard of the opening for tire receptionist she applied and has been there for five and half years. Rosemary’s job is to answer the phone, process in and outgoing mail for the staff, relate messages, and give directions. Her favorite part of the job is the atmosphere and Residence Hall By Janel Murphy The Residence Hall Council has been reconstructed. In fact, there is no longer an RHC. RHC is now the Association of Resi dence Hall Students (ARHS). When RHC was first formed, South Hall was the one and only Residence Hall at Penn State University Hazleton Campus. How ever, since then Hazleton Campus has grown. RHC has not been able to keep up with all the needs of all the students in all three resident halls. Hazleton Campus has outgrown RHC during the past few years. Four officers sitting in the basement of South Hall can no longer handle the demands of all the student activities throughout the campus. The solution to this problem is for RHC to expand in order to be able to fulfill the needs Letters Policy: The Highacres Collegian encourages comments on news coverage, editori als, and University Affairs. Wc want your input! Receptionist Honored as Collegian’s Unsung Hero Council Under Reconstruction and demands of the students. The purpose and function of the ARHS is to provide activi ties for all students residing in the University owned housing. It shall also provide, for its members, a living atmosphere representing their interests and encouraging a unified spirit a responsibility in resident halls. All full time students who are currently enrolled and reside in campus housing at Hazleton Campus, qualify as members of ARHS. The set up of ARHS is modeled after the same organization at University Park. Instead of there being only one Residence Hall Coun cil that presides over the whole campus, there will be a Council for each Residence Hall. Each Council will consist of a President, a Rosemary Mandrick meeting the students and faculty coming in everyday. She especially likes helping stu dents and faculty. “I go home at the end of the day feeling good, knowing that 1 helped people.” The most frequent requests from students and staff are finding directions around cam pus and Hazleton and placing phone calls. Not only does she work hard during the school year, but during the summer it gets busy with parents and students that are from out of town coming in for information about the campus and surrounding area. During the winter, students constantly call in to see if there is a compressed schedule or if there are classes cancelled. During Rosemary’s free time she enjoys aerobics, shopping, and spending time with her husband on remodeling the house, When giving credit where credit is due it should be given to Rosemary for all her dedication and help around campus Vice-President, a Secretary, and a Treasurer. Each Council will have its own responsibili ties and meetings in its own Halls. The Councils combined together form the Execu tive Board. The Executive Board shall act as the governing body of the Association of Residence Hall Students. It shall have ulti mate authority over all decisions made by its committees and officers as well as individual Residence Hall Councils. Executive Board Meetings will be presided over by a modera tor. ARHS has been created to fulfill the needs ofHazleton Campus students and hope fully the remodeling of the Council structure will be a success.
