The theme of the upcoming
semi-formal is, appropriately
enough, "This is the Time to
Remember." It is a fitting theme
for all the students on campus, but
especially for those who are
leaving. Granted, I have only been
here for two semesters, but I, too,
must face the bittersweet
realization that all things come to
an end. We who are
leaving-transferring to University
Park or to other colleges across the
country-must say goodbye to
people, places and things which
will never be the same again.
In your first semester of
college, you hesitantly say farewell
to your high school friends,
exchange promises of letter writing
and are gone. You stumble into a
completely different world, one
ripe with possibilities. Soon you
meet new people and the ache for
your old friends slowly dims then
vanishes and you find that you
don’t have enough time to write
those letters you so sincerely
promised.
You have a new life now, one
that revolves around an entirely
new group of people who help,
influence and inspire you. Some
have mild effect on you, while
others, if you are as fortunate as I
have been, make an
earth-shattering difference in your
life. It will not be easy to say
goodbye to any of them.
Back in November, I
discovered that I would be
transferring to U-Park in the fell. I
was fairly happy about it until my
one friend began to cry after I told
her. "I’m going to miss you," she
said. At that point I realized that
iSpring Semi-Formal: Page 6
my time with her, with everyone,
was frighteningly short. Since then
the months have flown by and now
I find myself having to say
farewell to a lot of people I really
don’t want to leave.
Yet, ironically, I am meeting
new people everyday. In fact, I
know about twenty more people
now than I did two weeks ago.
The question I ask myself is, "Why
bother with new people when you
will only leave them in a few
weeks?"
As I write this I am quickly
becoming good friends with a
person I hardly knew a week ago.
I was hesitant at first, stating that it
was pointless to get to know
another person when we’ll just
have to part in a month’s time.
But, I decided, what a month it
could be, filled with new
experiences and packed with the
chance for memories.
The semester is winding down
and for some people their
experiences at Penn State Hazleton
are coming to a close. Do not
worry about leaving, however.
Everyone must inevitably part at
one time or another. Instead,
reach out and get to know more
people. This is the time to
remember and it is your duty to
create memories that will stay with
you long after the people in them
are gone. Experience all you can
experience and enjoy all there is to
enjoy. It is the feet that we car
feel emotions such as love,
friendship and happiness with such
passion and intensity that mates
life ultimately worth living. And,
no matter what else happens,
please remember this.

"Always Smiling and
Always Happy"
By: Janel Murphy
We have had a recent tragedy
here at the Penn State Hazleton
campus, losing a beloved student
and friend, Michael (Slip) Fuller.
He was a good friend to
everyone he knew, very unselfish
and generous. If any one of his
friends needed something, he was
there to give it to them or to help
them. He touched many people and
affected their lives in countless
ways. Even people who did not
know him well remember him as
"always smiling and always
happy". The campus has stuck
together and supported each other
during this tragedy. Many students
When friends come into our lives,
We dream of days to come,
When friends come into our lives,
We know happiness like no one.
We laugh, and cry, and dream our dreams,
And share our lives together,
We care and share our future schemes,
And know life to be forever.
But when the smiles turn to tears,
And we are hurting, and our hearts break,
We must know that we can face our fears,
And we will get thru what life mates.
Smile and remember the good times,
And what life is to be,
Smile and think of happy times,
Because happiness is the key.
The family of Michael Eugene Fuller
sincerely thanks the students and
faculty of Penn State University-
Hazelton for the support and sympathy
given us following the tragic loss of
Michael last week. God bless you all.

showed their support for the family
and their love for Slip by attending
his viewing and the memorial
service held for him in K-l
Thursday afternoon April eigth.
It was a very touching service with
friends reciting poems and sharing
fond memories of Slip . He was a
good friend who will be greatly
missed by all. Whenever we think
of him, instead of feeling sorry for
ourselves because of our loss, we
should listen to the words of Dan
Darrow and feel happy just to have
known him and just remember him
and his smile.
