SOTA presents Rainmaker Penn State Hazleton’s Society of the Arts will present The Rainmaker, by N. Richard Nash, March 21 through 23 at 8:00 pm and March 24 at 2:00 pm in the campus Commons. One of America’s most loved romantic comedies, Tie Rain maker tells the story of a travel ling con artist who promises to bring rain to a drought-ravaged western ranch, but ends up trans forming a young woman’s roman tic dreams into reality. The cast includes Lisa Batche lor as Lizzie Curiy, Whitman Stansbery as her father, H.C. Curiy, and Michael Jesky and Mark Rosebeny as her brothers Noah and Jimmy. Kevin Gray plays Starbuck, the con man. Liz zie’s suitor, File, is played by Mike Morrell and Marshall Hof fritz plays Sheriff Thomas. The production is directed by Vince Landro, who describes the play as “one of those wonderful Basketball and Tennis seasons come to an end... See page 4. American romances we still believe in because it tells a story of hope and faith in the beauty of everyday reality.” Landro, a native of Hazleton, has acted, directed, and taught in theatre for many years. A gra duate of Penn State, he holds an M.F.A. degree in Directing from the University of Texas and an M.A. in Arts Management from Indiana University. Last spring he directed Tie Lion in Winter at Highacres. A special feature of the pro duction is the “arena” staging. Rather than the usual proscenium style, in which the audience sits feeing a raised stage, the arena audience will surround the play ing area on three sides and be Gulf War Editorial Page 2. much closer to the action. Len Roberts, poet, to visit Poet Len Roberts will present readings at a program on Wed nesday, March 20 at 7:30 pm in room K-l of the Kostos Class room Building. Mr. Roberts has published a number of books of poetry includ ing “Sweet Ones” published by Milkweed Editions and winner of the Great Lakes and Prairies Award.
