Many people are concerned about
the crisis taking place in the Persian
Gulf and the safety of thousands of
reservists called to active duly by the
United States military. Like these
people who show concern by displaying
yellow ribbons at their homes, many
college campuses are also publicly con
veying their support to the reservists.
Penn State University at Hazleton is
such a campus. On September 6, thir
teen Lion Ambassadors here on cam
pus suspended several yellow ribbons
both at the entrance of the campus and
in the residence halls to display the
unity of the student body in supporting
those who have been called to serve.
The program was conceived when a
research assistant and a student at this
campus were called to duty. Douglas
Demsko, an evening researcher at the
library on campus, is now serving as a
flight assistant in the Air Force reserves.
John Adams, who had previously been
scheduled to begin classes as a fresh
man this semester, had his college plans
put on hold when his reserve unit was
