Highacres C VOL 1 N 0.2 The End oft e Marchetti Era by Matt Harris ,Since 1981, Dr. Joseph J. Marchetti has faithfully served the faculty and stu dents of the Penn State - Hazleton Campus. Originally given the tttle of Assis tant Dean of Student Af fairs, he subsequently had his title changed to Assis tant Director of Student Programs and Services by the administration at Uni versity Park. Through the years, Dr. Marchetti has been a key link in the pro gressive success of the campus, focusing most of h4s attention on the social aril academic achievements of tts students. However, this will no longer be the case. As of November 30th, 1985, Dr. Marchetti will no longer be serving the Pennsylvania State Univer sity. ite will be taking over the position of Dean of Students at Richard Stockton State College, a four-year college with ap proximately four thousand students, located in Panona, New Jersey. Dr. Marchetti's out standing record eras proba bly the major factor that enabled his to receive the position. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Biology and a Master of Science degree in Education While also obtaining a Pennsylvania State Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education from Wilkes College. He later obtained a Doctor of Phil osophy degree In Organiza tional Leadership, Curricu lum, and Instruction from the Graduate School of Edu cation at the University of Pennsylvania, with a con centration in leadership training and administra tion. As far as his experi ence is concerned, Dr. Mar chetti has served as Assis tant. Dean of Students at College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts; and as Director of Housing at Wilkes College, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. During a recent inter view, Dr. Marchetti ex pressed both his excitement and sorrow on accepting.his „, new position. "I'm very excited about starting my new posieion," he said. "It's a new atmos phere for me, and it feels good to be able to face nt4 challenges. I am very thankful to have been given the opportunity to work at Holy Cross, Wilkes College, and especially Penn State. It'll be difficult Leaving this campus because I've grown very fond of it, its faculty, and the quality of its students, but life moves on and so do people." Currently, the Univer sity does not have a re placement for Dr. Marchet ti. An appointment commit tee will be established by Dr. William J. David, Cam pus Executive Director; and Joseph McCallus, Director of Student Programs and Services, in order to find Dr. Marchetti's replace ment. The Pennsylvania State University - Hazleton Cam pus is losing a good man in Joseph Marchetti.
