    Looking for a good
place to eat? Many col
lege students are on a
tight budget and define a
special dining ex
perience as forgetting
the T.V. dinner or can of
spaghettios and sampl
ing the Italian cuisine of
Joe's Pizzeria. Even if
the expense is not a pro
blem, students who hail
from other areas may
not be aware of the many
fine restaurants located
in the Hazleton area.
I spoke with several in
structors here at
Highacres who are well
acquainted with the area
for suggestions on
special places to dine.
Two names appeared
consistently on
everyone's list: The
Lookout House and the
Corner Cafe.
The Lookout House,
which offers a splendid
view of the Conyngham
Valley, is located on the
Berwick-Hazleton
Highway (Route 93),
about a 1045 minute
drive from the Highacres
Campus. The restaurant,
formerly known as Stone
Manor, was built in the
late 19305, and has been
under new managerhent
for the past year. Mike
Morrison, the new
manager, says the
Lookout's menu can be
liberally described as
French Cuisine.
The Penn State faculty
is planning to hold an end
of-the year banquet there
and Doctor Rudolph, an
instructor at Highacres,
feels that a major

positive factor in the
'Lookout experience is
the attractive manner in
which the food is served.
Meals are garnished
with sugar-dusted
grapes, and the salads
are attractively arrang
ed and served with a
wide
variety y$ of
homemade dressings.
The restaurant serves
fresh baked bread with
every meal, several
nights a week a piano
player entertains with
dinner music, and, in the
winter, roaring p fire
helps contribute to the
restaurant's cozy at
mosphere. Finally, the
Lookout's chef, Donald
Koch, a friendly fellow
who appears to enjoy
conversing with and
complementing the
customers as much as
,preparing fine food,
'enhances the rest
aurant's image.
Facts on faculty

We are all interested in
what our professors say
and do during class, but
we rarely get the op
portunity to ask them
~ what they do outside of
class. Below is a list of
some of the interests and
hobbies of some of the
teachers from the
Hazleton Campus.
DID YOU KNOW?...
... Dr. Michael Santulli
goes fly fishing in •
Fishing Creek located
in the Ricketts Glenn
area every chance he
gets? •
... Dr. Margaret Cote's
latest and favorite
sport is jogging?
Dr. Alan Price enjoys
bicycling so much
that he plans to ride
through France on his •
bicycle this summer?
... Dr. Eugene Miller

The Corner Cafe,
situated on the corner of
10th and James, appears
to be exactly what its
name implies from the
exterior. The outside of
the building gives no hint
of the intriguing, almost
exotic atmosphere in-'
side. A special mood is
created by the many
beautiful plants and
background music, soft
modern jazz like the
music of Spiro Gyra.
The restaurant
;features Continental
cuisine and the faculty
members I talked to
recommended the
seafood in particular.
Doctor Bell of Penn State
tends bar there on the
weekends and Doctor
Price tells me that many
other members of the
faculty have been known
to frequent the bar which
features such interesting
drinks as a Peitah Slush
and a Strawberries and
Sour Cream.
Since the teachers I
talked with recommend-
.. Miss Lauren Mc-

in her garden when
she is not grading
English papers.
These herbs, such as
rosemary and .
oregano, are used for
cooking and their
pleasant scents?
.. Mr. James Pino used
to play in a rock band, .
and he still manages
to find some time to
play in weddings? Mr.
Pino plays the sax,
flute, trumpet, and
clarinet?
. . Dr. Harold Aurand
collects coins, and he
works in his flower

ed the Corner Cafe so
highly, I recently had
lunch there with a friend
and was indeed impress
ed with both the

and excellent luncheon

Some other
restaurants in the area
worth noting include the
Top of the 'Bo's for steak;
both Zolas and the
Avalon for Italian food;
Scattons, which serves a
delectable seafood
salad; and Sunny Knoll
for large portions served
family-style at a
reasonable price.
