Rocky Horror Picture Show by Carol Meiser The last time you went to see a movie in the , theater, did you remember to take your rice, playing cards, flashlight, toilet paper, and container filled with water? If not, then the movie you saw definitely was not the most exciting film ever released by a motion picture company, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. If you haven't seen this zany film, you are probably thinking: "What kind of idiot takes these items to a theater, and what could anybody possibly do with them?" The answer: Audience participation! Yes, these essen tials provide anyone who goes to see The RHPS the equipment necessary to actually participate at various points in the movie by imitating or mocking actions or lines of the main characters. (The rice, for instance, will do fine when the two main characters, Brad and Janet, decide to get married)! Any avid music fan will also en joy The RHPS, but I'm not sure that the music in the movie will resemble anything that you have in your current musical library! The lyrics and melodies are definitely "unique" and partially reflect "New Wave." "Meatloaf," who debuts in the movie, performs several songs, and if you're interested in learn ing new dances, the "time warp" May be just what you've been dy ing to learn! Each student had high hopes of receiving such housing. This system of "first come, first serve" applies not only to the Hazleton campus, but also to all the branch campuses of the University. Prior to this year, students competed for a dorm on the evening before a normal day of classes. This year it was decid ed that advanced housing would take place on a weekend solely for academic reasons. Three weeks later, sixty eight Highacres students were elated when they received news that they would receive a dorm In the Fall; eleven students, on the other hand, received the opposite news. Most of these rejected students felt that they had arriv ed early enough to receive a dorm and were shocked, disap pointed, and, most of all, angry when they heard the official news. Where will these eleven "unlucky" students live in the Fall Term? Several of them have been fortunate enough already to find off-campus housing, while others have not yet had the op portunity to search for it. Most of the available facilities have already been given out. One irate student from our campus stated that if no other means were available, he would sleep on the The RHPS has sold over a million copies , and once you've heard it (maybe a neighbor has one you can borrow), you'll see what a worthwhile investment this album really is. And if you enjoy costume par ties, you definitely won't want to miss this outrageous classic! Everyone has the opportunity to dress up as their favorite character in wild costumes, and if you're interested enough in that character, you might want to seriously consider auditioning for his or her role. One local group, the Lehigh Valley chapter of The Rocky Horror Players, performs live every Saturday night at the Lehigh Valley Mall cinema in Allentown and obtained their parts in the same manner. Well, I don't want to spoil the unlimited fun you'll have by unravelling the plot, even though I could since I've seen it several times already. To date, people have seen the film a maximum of 210 times, but if you're like most college students on a budget, several times should be suffi cient. So, if you want to par ticipate in late night "movie madness," take a few of your friends, all of the items previous ly mentioned, dress up, and go see the RHPS, now playing in our area at the Wyoming Valley Mall, Schuylkill Mall, and the Lehigh Valley Mall. But, as Dr. James Staudenmeier, Associate Direc tor at Highacres, says, "Until somebody comes up with a better system, this is the way it will con tinue."
