"HIGHACRES Monday, December 18, 1978 Mr. William E. Schneider To us, the coming of a new year means a time for change. To accomplish this change, we make resolutions by setting goals for us to conquer in that year. Well, this coming year brings a change to Highacres. Our campus will be void of a prominent member in its Ad ministrative Family. Effective January 1, 1979; Mr. William E. Schneider our Assistant Direc tor, will be retiring. Mr. Schneider, after his discharge from the army in December 1945, began working with Penn State in March 1946, following World War 11. His duties as a member of the PSU Search Comm The Search Committee of the Hazleton Campus is working hard to find a replacement for Mr. Schneider, the Associate Director of Academic Affairs, who will be retiring soon. The members of the Committee in clude the following people from the Hazleton Campus: Dr. Harold Aurand, Associate Professor of History;. Dr. An thony Galanti, Associate Professor of Engineering; Mrs. Deidre Jago, Assistant Professor of Physical Education; Mr. Mark Rovito, President of the Student Government Association (SGA); and Mr. M. Leonard Shaevel, Associate Professor of Physics, and the following people from University Park: Dr. Edwin L. Herr, Head of the Division of Counseling and Educational Psychology and the College of Education; Mr. Charles R. Meek, Assistant Director of the Division of Administrative :an'd Field Services and Continuing Schneider Retires staff began with educational counseling for veterans. Within a short time, Mr. Schneider moved up the executive ladder by holding various ad ministrative assignments such as Administrator of day and evening classes at Highacres. The year 1955 marked his taking command of the post as Assistant Director of our cam pus. This distinguished gentleman, received his Bachelor’s degree from PSU and then went on to complete his Master’s degree training at Lehigh University, following the war. Education; Dr. G. Kenneth Nelson, Professor of Accounting; and Dr. Robert D. Paschek, Associate Dean of the College of Business Administration. The Search Committee has received over 150 applications for the position. Candidates from all over the country and the world have applied. Each ap plicant has submitted a resume stating his or her qualifications for the position. Applications are still being received, but the deadline is already passed. The actual selection process will be as follows: First,, all applicants must have their doctorate and five years’ experience. Then, eight names are chosen for their overall qualifications and the final choice is made by Dr. David. The Associate Director for Academic Affairs serves as the chief academic officer of the • campus. This individual .will, un der the supervision of . the cam- Hazlcton Campus Penn State University COLLEGIAN« Mr. Schneider has no par ticular hobbies, but he does en joy walking around our campus admiring the beautiful sights and sounds common only to Highacres. When asked about Highacres as a job location, Mr. Schneider replied by saying he enjoys a campus such as ours over one like University Park, because its smallness allows him to work closer to the students, rather than to communicate through paperwork. He also comments on the student-body, past and present, as being “All the Same” - Among the students screened when they enter college, almost ttee pus director, be responsible for providing leadership, and developing and maintaining academic programs in resident and continuing education. Other areas of responsibility include assessing local community academic needs; academic plan ning and development; recruit ment, assignment, evaluation and development of faculty; course scheduling and records; and participation in other ac tivities. Because of the numerous ap plications, the new Associate Director will not be known until at least January 15.
