"Oh Dad, Poor Dad. . • Success For Drama Club The Drama Club’s Spring production “Oh Dad, Poor Dad . . was presented in the Highacres Commons the evenings of April 25 through 28. Judging from the audience response, the play was a great success on campus. “The farce,” directed by Dr. Carl Frankel, starred Lisa Sonner as the domineering Madame Rosepettle, Butch LaMont as her stammering son Jonathan, Sybil McGuire as Rosalie, who is not as innocent as she pretends, and Keith Knearem as the distinguished Commodore Roseabove. Also featured were John Lewis as the head bellboy, Renee DiSabella as the maid, and Gerry Nork, Ken Dudeck and Bud Swenson as the bellboys. The play, set in Port Royal, a city somewhere in the Caribbean, tells the story of a domineering, over-protective mother who comes to this city with her son, her silver piranha fish, Rosalinda, and her Venus Fly-traps. The plot of the play deals with the effect their stay has on two other inhabitants of the city. The Commodore is told the story of Madame’s life. It kills his love for her and all he feels is pity for her son. Jonathan not only kills the love that Rosalie feels for him—he actually kills Rosalie. The actors and actresses did a superb job of bringing their parts to life. The play was also helped along by the scenery, sound and lighting. The work done in these three areas gave a very professional polish to the entire production. The stage crew definitely deserves a share of the credit for the success of the play. Once again it seems that the dramatic talent on this campus has found-its way into an entertaining evening enjoyed by many. Marc Rovito ran for S.G.A. president on the same ticket with Parsons. The team defeated the Gerry Nork-Ken Dudeck ticket by a margin of 40 votes. Over 300 students voted in the election held on April 12, casting their ballots in the Commons Building and the Residence Hall. “We can’t thank any ONE person,” Rovito said, “we had alot of help from a lot of people.” Rovito and Parsons ran on a platform stressing efforts to increase student cooperation and involvement in campus activities. They hope to achieve their goal through increased support of two S.G.A. initiated organizations, The Highacres Club Advisory Council and the Organization of Town and Independant Students. (0.T.1.5.). As part of their victory statement, the winning candidates pledged to revise the present system for allocating monies to S.G.A. clubs and organizations. The new officers also see the need for increased inter-campus communication. “We plan to improve campus com munication through intensive cooperation with THE HIGHACRES COLLEGIAN and the campus radio station WHCB,” Rovito said. “We want to make students more aware of S.G.A. and we have tentative plans for an S.G.A. Newsletter,” said Parsons. Nork and Dudeck, S.G.A. senators, pledge their continued support to the new administration.
