Contrary to the reversal of the Women’s
Volleyball team from a traditionally
medocre team to a successful team in
1977 such was the opposite of the Golf
Team, under the direction of Mr. George
Bobby, traditionally one of the more
successful squads in the Commonwealth
Campus Athletic Conference, this year’s
squad suffered from lack of participation.
Initial interest was shown by 28, but that
number wore down to 6 for the first match
and below the required 5 for the remain
der, thus counting as forfeits. This
problem arose due to schedule conflicts
many of the 28 suffered. The result was
only one victory, one loss and a host of
forfeits. This fact is very disappointing,
but priorities are at stake here, and
academics came out on top over ex
tracurricular activities, and that’s very
promising. The dedication by students at
Highacres to academics over activities
shows endeavor. For those of you of the 28,
do not feel guilty! Intramural activity, as
all other activities of the Fall Term and as
the term itself, are winding down to a
close. In Men’s Basketball, the Merry
Fairies squad was crowned the champion.
In Three-man Bowling, the activity is
not complete at this writing, but the teams
participating are: Pin Busters, Jim’s,
Willard Donner, P.1.F., The preceding
squads compete in League A, which meets
on Tuesday night, and the following are
from League B, which meet Thursday
night: Bob Hahn, Three’s Company, Alley
Cats, Mittlemen, Project Learn, and
Infinity.
In Five-man Bowling, the following
squads competed: Blue Jays, Odd Balls,
Swamp, Pin Killers, Magicians, and
Palace Guards.
Flag football was among the intramural
activities also, listing the following teams:
Minutemen, Blue Jays, Apostles, Merry
Fairies, NIAAA and Staff. The NIAAA was
the reigning Champions this year.
A variety of tennis intramurals was
staged also, including the following:

You may find this information in
complete in. relation to specific activity,
and that was due to the inability of this
reporter to keep up with it all. This
drawback was due to a lack of com
munication. If in the future you, whether
participating in an intramural sport
during the Winter Term, or you were in the
fall and would like to see more information
in The Collegian, consider becoming an
intramural correspondent to The
Collegian. The activity is just too much for
one man to keep up with and get a line of
communication on.
rt new ciud is tormmg on campus that
has an interesting activity, and deserves
attention. Highacres Video Engineering
(H.A.V.E.) will utilize the videotaping
equipment possessed by Instructional
Services (which amounts to more than any
other Penn State branch campus outside of
University Park) and videotape events on
campus, such as plays or sporting events
(basketball, in particular) and run them
over the facilities of Mountain City Cable
Company Channel 12. Personnel, par
ticularly technicians such as cameramen,
are needed. This is an interesting field that
may interest you; if it does, you can join by
seeing Mr. Methot in the Library, Mr.
Caccese, or Barry Jais.

last week for 192 yards and two touch
downs while playing only 36 minutes
against Miami, which came into the game
with the nation’s top-ranked pass defense.
The balanced offense was evident as
Fusina and backup quarterback Tony
Capozzoli combined for 232 yards passing
and the Lions added 229 yards on the
ground
“I thought that game was going to be a
real dogfight, but I felt we could throw
against Miami if we could run the ball,”
the Lion quarterback says. “The offensive
line did a great job and the receivers ran
good routes.”
One of those routes was a sideline streak
by split end Scott Fitzkee, who was all
alone to receive a Fusina pass on a 72-yard
touchdown play, the longest scoring pass
of Fusina’s career at Penn State.
“It was a triple streak with (flanker
Penn State has set records for total and
average per game attendance at Beaver
Stadium this year. The Nittany Lions have
drawn 372,805 fans for six games, an
average of 62,134 per game. The previous
records of 367,788 total and 61,298 per game
were set last year in six contests. Penn
State’s Nov. 12 game against Temple also
is a sellout and will add to the records.

Jimmy; uetalo and Fitzkee down the
sidelines and (tight end Mickey) Shuler
down the middle,” Fusina recalls. “We
caught them in a two-deep and I saw the
safety move over toward Shuler. I just
threw it and hoped I hadn’t overthrown
him. I was relieved when I saw Scott catch
the ball.”
That play, which came with 8:24 to play
in the third quarter and gave the Lions a
42-0 lead, was Fusina’s last appearance of
the afternoon.
“The statistics may not show it, but I
feel like I’m playing better now than when
we were passing so much earlier in the
season,” he says. “I’m more comfortable
now. We have a good balanced offense and
that makes me feel good.”
It has had the opposite effect on Penn
State’s opposition.
Penn State has extended its own
National Collegiate Athletic Association
record for most consecutive seasons
without a losing record. The Nittany Lions
are assured of their 39th straight non
losing season. Penn State last lost more
games than it won in 1938, when the record
was 3-4-1.
