Channel 44» WVIA-TV, has
made its swing into spring with
the addition of new programs
and specials for its regener
ated audience.
"Pennsylvania: An Ethnic
Portrait," produced by a Chan
nel 44 staff member, is a ser
ies that explores the.role of
ethnic backgrounds in contem
porary living situations; the
influence of religion; the de
gree to which these groups are
faced with intolerance; and the
extent of assimilation into our
modem culture. Among the
groups explored will be the
Welsh, Irish, Scotch-Irish,
German, Blacks, Puerto Rican,
Quakers, and Eastern Europeans.
This series premiers Tuesday, ''
April 6 at 7 p.m., and runs for
five consecutive weeks.

ned for April are: "Mao's Chi
na," three hours of Prench film
footage, both new and archival,
which presents an assessment
of China in 1976 and examines
its relationship with the U.S.,

"Kosciuszko: An American Por
trait," a dramatic re-enactment
of the role of Colonel Thaddeus
Kosciuszko, the young foreign
officer who aided the American
Continental Army during the
Revolutionary War,' on Monday,
April 5 a t 9 p.m.; and a "Great
Performance" Special, live from
Lincoln Center in New York City,
"The Ballad of Baby Doe," pre
sented by the New York City
Opera, on Wednesday, April 21
at 8 p.m.
