At Highacres
PennPIRG is an organiza
tion which has"existed in col
leges in otheiKstates and is
just coming to Pennsylvania.
Pexm State will he the first
college to start it. Other
colleges are now trying to get
it started, also. The letters
PIRG stand for Publics Interest
Research Group. an
independent organization to
help the public. It is being
organized by students con
cerned with social problems.
Students who join PennPIRG
have to pay a samll fee of
$2.00. That money is giveh
to PIRG to use for its ex
penses.
There will be a board of
directors at H. Park and on
each campus. The members will
be elected by the students.
It will consist of students
who paid the $2.00 fee. There
will also be a paid profes
sional staff composed of
lawyers and other profes
sional people.
The PIRG in other states
have showed many results in
places where it is already es
tablished. Many people have
been helped by PIRG. PIRG
members not only help the con
sumer; it also helps in areas
of discrimination, housing,
and just about any other prob
lem that an average citizen is
faced with.
