VOLUME TEN NUMBER TOME HAZLETON PENNSYLVANIA 18201 DEOEMHER 16, 1974 CHORUS CONCERT The Hazleton Campus Chorus, under the direction of Mr. Juni,. peter, presented its annual winter concert on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8:00 p.m. in C-1. The major piece for this winter's concert was The Af rican Mass by the noted com poser-arranger and choral di rector, Norman Luboff. Solo ists for the work were Betsy Landesco, soprano, and Craig McAlexander, bass. The work was set in the traditional La tin order of worship. One of its unique features was the use of African type rhythms, played on various sized drums. Joseph Sofranko was the drum soloist for this piece. Some of the exciting numbers performed were: The African Noel, specially se lected to compliment The Africas Mass; Gaudeamus Hodie; Mary Had a Baby; and Could This Be a Spe cial Night: Other sele ctions which were not car ols, but which sounded just as beautiful included:, She's Like the Swallow, a Canadian Folk Song; and A Rose Touched by the Sun's Warn Rays. Avf AlutNicrl The Joypipers, a smal ler group of girls within the chorus, celebrating their first anniversary as a performing group s sang four nuMberss The Birthday of a King, a moderately slow but lovely carol; Frosty the Snowman, that well-known favorite; an amusing rendi tion of Snoopyls Christmas, complete with Snoopy and the Red Baron; and a surprise lIIII:\:l~~ ' performance of The Twelve Days of Chorus, which the Joypipers dedicated to their favorite music instructor and director, Mr. Joseph Jumpeter. The program oonoluaed with two musing carols: Tidings. of Comfort and Joy and Joy to the World. BEATLES FESTIVAL film festival was held in the Commons. The films shown were "Magical Mystery Tour" and the popular "Yellow Submarine." A film depicting the history of the Beatles was also shown. Another added feature was a Beatle's PlSmorablia during which Beatles fans were able to trade and inspect each other's collections of memorablia of their favorite group. Last Friday a Beatle's
