GROUNDBREAKING
Two hundred people.at
tended the groundbreaking
werenonies for the new phys
ical education building here
at Righecree on Sunday, Oc
tober 6.
Dr. William David, di
rector of this campus, made
welooming remarks and intro
duced Senator Marti& L. Mur
ray, preseident pro teapore
of the Pennsylvania state
Senate. Senator Mkrray spoke
of Penn State's obligations
to expand upon the opportun
ities for one to receive an
education in Pennsylvania.
M 4 noted that Highacres
was the first of the Common
wealthomasTeses, and was al
so the first to bring "the
University to the students."
He said that he feels that
the future of Luzern. County
will someday rest in the hands
of those students which High*
acres has been able to edu
cate.
In closing, the Senator
wished the faculty and the
student body of Highacres
well for the future, and
said, "I hope to be with you
again when we cut the ribbon."
Dr. Robert G. Quinn, the
dean of Academic Instruction
for the Commonwealth canpuses,
spoke of the importance of
health and physical educe,-
tion to a student, and men
tioned Penn State's inten
tion that each and every stu
dent have this opportunity.
Dr. John Vi. Oswald, pres
ident of the Pennsylvania
State University, reminisced
about his decision to join
the Penn State administra-

sions of Penn State and the
Commonwealth campus system.
He elaborated upon the im
portance of the Commonwealth
campuses to the entire struc
ture of Penn State, noting
that almost half of the stn.+
dents who graduated from
Penn State had at one
time or another attended a
Commonwealth campus. He
feels that the campuses are
an mach an important,part
of Penn State University as
University Park itself, and
should be regarded as am
attempt to bring an education
to more of the people of
Pennsylvania. President Os
wald thanked Senator Murray
for his leadership, nd mend
tioned a number of persons
who were in the audience,
among whom was former Direc
tor Prank Costae of the Haz
leton Campus.

re-enaction of the ground
breaking at the Hiebacres
campus in 2934. Dr. David
was then interrupted by the
arrival on the scene of a
1931 Buick coupe which car
ried inside two "1934 (m

Blast and Sue Petrillo,.
