The Highacres Tennis Team
opened its season with an 8-1
loss to the Berks Campus of the
Pennsylvania State University.
It was a tough loss for Dr.
Montjar, Mr. Price, and their
team, but they have five more
matches ahead of them and I
am sure that they will have
their share of victories.
In the match with Berks,
Highacres lost all of the sin
gles matches. The results of
the matches / are as follows:
(H) Goldfine vs Strauss
6-0,
(H) Bates vs Fitterbine
6-2,
(H) Gramata vs Limpus
6-0,
(H) Skordinski vs Troy
6-1,
(H) Patterson vs Fling
(H) Holden vs Blono
6-2, 6-1
Along with the singles
matches, the tennis team also
played doubles. Here the team
found better success when they
beat Berks in one out of three
matches. The doubles team of
Skordinski and England was vic
torious. The results for the
doubles are as follows:.
(H) Gramata, Goldfine vs Bolno,
Miller 3-6, 6-3, 6-0
(H) Gilbert, Bates vs Pempers,
Fling 6-3, 6-1' ,
(H) Skordinski, England vs
Kholas, Duklevski 6-3, 6-0
The team is involved in
many more matches during the
remaining weeks of the term.
Their. next match is at home
on April 24. Try to get out
and see the team. The remain
ing matches are as follows:
April 30 Away Schuykill
Haven
May 1 Home Wilkes-Barre
May 7 Hoene Allentown
May 10 Away Scranton
The season will end on
May 18 when the team travels
to University Park for the
Commonwealth Campus Tourna
ment. In this event, two

singles players and two dou
bles teams will be entered.
The members of the team are
Blane Bates, Tom England, Deb
bie Freedman, Gary Gilbert,
Michael Goldfine, Dennis Gra
mata, Linda Holden, Rich No
taro, Robert Patterson, and
Mark Skordinski.
We wish to take this op
portunity to wish the teams

in all of their future mat
ches. All of us hope that
your practice will help you
to become victorious in all
of your remaining matches.
The Highacres golf team
opened its season with an
11 to 6.i match victory over
the golf team from Scranton.
It was a bog victory for High
acres and all six members had
scores in the eighties. The
individual scores were as fol
lows: Gene Babon had a total
of 89; Tom Chirico and Mike
Lonassus scored a total of
83; the remaining players all
had a total score of 81. They
were Ron Makuta, Carl Makuta,
and Cris Cresnec.
The team practices and
plays all of its home matches
at the Sugarloaf Golf Course
in Conyngham. The team will
take on the Schuylkill Campus
in its next match on April 23.
The remaining matches for Mr.
Bobby, Mr. Klomp, and the team
are as follows:

The members of the team
have a busy season ahead of
them, and we wish them con
tinued success in all of their
matches.
The Highacres swim team
splashed its way to victory on
April 18th when they defeated
the Schuylkill Campus 96-35.
The women's score was 42-24;
the men had a score of 54-11.
The Highacres team gave up only
four first place finishes to
Schuylkill. The remaining first
place slots were all dominat
ed by our team.
The meet was held at the
YMCA-YWCA pool in Hazleton.
The first place winners for the
individual events are as follows:
In the 200 Yard Medley Relay,
McDermott, Horrex, Marnell, and
Wisser placed first; in the 100
Yard Freestyle Mark Denke took
the first position; in the 100
Yrad Individual Medley, Tom
Shea captured first; in the 50
Yard Freestyle O'Conner of the
Schuylkill Campus placed in
the top position; Tom Shea
captured first in the 50 Yard
Butterfly; Getty of Schuylkill
took first in the 50 Yard Back
stroke; the 50 Yard Breaststroke
was a tie between Horrex and
Shea; and the 200 Yard Free
style Relay was captured by
Owenweder, Denke, Finnerfrock,
and Wisser. In the women's
events first place was captured
by the following: in the 200
Yard Medley Relay, Werner, Skib
bie, Paradise, and Reber; in
the 100 Yard Freestyle, Barb
Williams; in the 100 Yard In
dividual Medley, Paradise; in
the 50 Yard Freestyle, Barb
