Perhaps you thi,* of me as insane or worse yet a waste of space, but remember we are all a bit cracked and thou shalt not bock creative insanity BYRON MCBERGER by Deborah Berger I had a singular dream last night. I heard the strains of the Penn State Alma Mater in the background while a young blond man wearing an academic robe and mortarboard appeared at the foot of my bed. He carried a lantern in one hand and a Penn State banner in the other. "Who are you?" I asked, since I am not ac customed to this sort of thing. A halo seemed to glow over his head as he answered, "I am the ghost of the Perfect Penn State Student." I sat in awe as the ap parition delivered his mes sage. "This is one Highacres student who is sick of hearing his former campus knocked around! "When Highacres is in trouble, does any other col lege ever raise a hand to help? No! When the schools in the Susquehanna Valley were flooded, many families of Highacres students volunteered shelter and other forms of aid. When the water pipes in the SUB broke and the building was without water for two days, did any other college offer us help? Not "When the Hazleton YMCA needed volunteers last spring to handle the young boys' clubs, the Psy 13 and CFEd classes rushed in with com petent personnel to answer the request, including leaders of the boys' Rifle Club. When the thermostat in the South Building required punative measures, did the YMCA 88-Gun Club lift a trigger finger to take the necessary action? Not "On March 25, many High acres students kept a devoted vigil as North Carolina State and Marquette battled it out for the championship. I ask Open letter Dear Students, Even though our campus is relatively small, I still find it difficult to personally communicate with the majority of the students. By writing this open letter in the COLLEGIAN I hope to achieve this commun ication. If you don't do it, who will? When you look on rosters 'for clubs and organizations, it is always the same names that you see. These people cannot do all the work there 'is to do in all the clubs that 'they hold membership in. The Student Government Association was organized for the students and by the students. If you don't do it, no one will. The S.G.A. election for the 1974-1975 year will take place soon. In previous years we just about had enough peo ple running for S.G.A. and not even one fourth of the stu dents on this campus were con cerned enough to vote in the elections. At the risk of sounding like a "How to Get Involved on Your Campus" handbook, I would suggest that those students Who aren't active in at least one activity and will be here for at least two more terms, consider running for a repre sentative or President, or Vice President of S.G.A. you, did even one student fron either of these institutions bother to raise a cheer of en couragement at our own facul ty-student basketball game? Not one! The History Club has brought in many speakers and authorities on the Molly Mho guires. When did the Molly Meoguires ever give Highacres any free publicity? Never! "Highacres has been critp ioized onoe too often, if you ask me. Other places have much worse reputations. Theme is a spdt in the western Atlantic called the Bermuda Triangle where ships disappear mysteriously and are never heard from again. Did a ship ever disappear in anything continued page three Mark Denke President, S.G.A.
