The 1973 Volleyball Intra
mural League has completed its
season, and the Hornets reign
as the champions of the ten
team league. Going into their
final came of the regular season,
the Hornets were undefeated;
however, they were upset by the
Setters, thus setting up the
championship game with the
Sweat Socks, whose only defeat
came at the hands of the Hornets
in mid-season.
Both teams were ready for
the October 22 championship
Fame. The air at the courts be
fore the game was tense, but
the Hornets seemed to be
more at ease when the first game
of the match started. The
cornets easily beat the Sweat
Socks with a 15-1 victory. The
tension seemed to be with the
TTornets in the gerund game a s
+he sweat Socks kept up with
the Hornets in scoring. At
the end of the eight-minute time
limit, the score was tied at
11-11, thus creating an over
time. In the overtime, the
Hornets held the Sweat Socks to
their eleven points as they
scored the necessary two points
to win the game. The result
was a 13-11 game, with the
Hornets winning the 'second game
and the championship. The
Hornets finished their season
with a 9-1 record.
The members of the 1973
championship team are all soph
omores. The members are: Mary
Beth Pollock, Mary Melenchick,
Mary Fran Postupack, Mary Ann
McGlory, Carole Shenosky, Theresa,
Zola, Marian Hopis, and Mary
Angie DeLazio. The girls
practiced hard for their
championship game and it paid
off well.
The Final Standings for the
1973 Intramural Volleyball
League are the following:

This year was a very suc—
cessful year for volleyball, with
ten teams and approximately
84 girls competing in the games.
Many thanks should go to Mrs.
Deidre Jago for organizing the
teams, and to the Intramural
Board for being at the games to
keep score and time. Credit
should be given to the teams
themselves for being at the
courts for all their scheduled
games. The 1973 Volleyball seas
on was successful because so many
people on campus showed interest
in the sport.
