LOOKING continued from page four the late Duane Allman on slide guitar weaves a song which, unlike most solo-oriented rock music, is a total group effort with each person adding to the overall song. Jimi Rendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower" shows the versatility•on guitar that made him a legend in his own time. Bob Dylan has written many songs for many people, but I count this as one of his best and together, they are un beatable. "The Allman Brothers Live at The Fillmore," has to be one of the finest live albums ever recorded. It shows to the hilt the full versatility of American rock music, from the heavy blues ' of "Stormy Monday" to the Jazz like melodies of "Hot Lanta." Duane Allman was one of the best guitarists to come out of rock, and his position will probably be unchallenged for quite a while. Emerson, Lake, and Palmer's first album shows a blending of classical and Jazz styles that is near perfect. Each member of , the trio is an expert in his own field, and with songs like "Lucky Man" and "Take a Pebble", listening to this album is sheer pleasure. And finally, the last album I feel to be one of the best would have to be the original record of the rock opera'Tommy: We now have many rock operas, musicals, and masses written in traditional form, but "Tommy' was one of the first, and ac curately could be called a trend setter. Very few albums are made with the degree of preciseness and professionalism of this one. These few selections by no means close the category, but I think I have selected those songs and albums that are really the best. In the past Highacres sponsored Gravel and Bruce Vanderpool, neither which got the attend ance they deserved. "The Falling-Out" featuring "Haji," a local rock band, got the sup port it deserved. HAJI made some fantastic listening music. A lot of people were saying how great they were. I couldn't agree more. The mel odies were good and very tight ly put together. I would sug gest,.however, that if you like good music events at High acres you might get off your backsides and come support activities instead of com plaining there is nothing to do!
