Hazleton finishes league
play with a 6-4 record
by BILL SCHALLER
Assistant Sports Editor
The Hazleton Campus of
PSU basketball team finished
its divisional competition at
Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday
night, and suffered an 88-84
defeat, running its league
record to six wins and four
losses. The loss destroyed any
hope that Hazleton had for a
divisional title.
On Saturday night
Schuylkill downed Scranton at
Schuylkill to force a playoff
between the two teams. Both
finished regular divisional play
with 7 and 3 records. Had
Hazleton been able to defeat

Wilkes-Barre, which they
should have done with "no
sweat," they also would have
finished with a 7 and 3 record
and a three-way playoff would
have ensued. As things stand
now, Hazleton will have to
settle for 3rd place in the
division.
Looking back on the
season, one wonders how . a
team. with such talented
scoring ability can fall into the
category of mediocrity. The
problem therefore must have
been credited to defense, or
lack of it. Hazleton scored 100
or more points twice in losing
efforts, and gave up more than

100 points on live different
occasions. There are usually
two reasons for poor defense,
one is unwillingness and the
other is that the players are
simply not in shape. However,
no one reason can be singled
out because in this writer's
opinion, one .complements the
other.
Scoring was certainly not
the problem. Jim Chapman and
Bill Schaller averaged better
than 22 points a game, Joe
Zoeller averaged in the high
teens, Larry Kovatch and Craig
Knouse scored in the low
doubles and Wayne Stewart
was just off that pace.
Therefore, with those statistics
in mind, it's obvious that
defense was the culprit. No

put up on the board, if the
other team puts up more,

fans used to say, "Wait'll next

SGA to hold
used book sale
on April 4
Good news for those of
you who gripe each term at
Bookstore prices! On April 4,
Spring term Registration Day,
the Student Government
Association will hold a

office.
Gary Labanoski, chairman
of the booksale, explains it as

will set his own price for them
and bring them to the SGA
office on April 4. The student
will then be given a receipt for
his books. On the following
Tuesday, April 11, the student
may pick up his money or
unsold books in the SGA
office.
The booksale will run
from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
andi s o n a
first-come-first-served basis.
Cash only will be accepted.
This sale provides the student
with a tremendous saving over
Bookstore prices.

, Minnesota's Ron Behagen and Corky Taylor should either be
banned completely from intercollegiate basketball, or be bound
and gagged and put in a room with Ohio State's Luke Witte!
Glad to see that Floyd Paterson handled Ringo Bonavena ... I
don't think, however, that he has the strength to do the same to
Joe Frazier. Patterson's made a lot of money and a lot of friends
in his boxing career and he's put down the old cliche that "nice
guys finish last."
This writer sees Cleon Jones and Jerry Koosman having big
years, and combined with the usually steady Tom Seaver, should
lead the Mets to another pennant.
Aside to Larry Kovatch ... Giants will be lucky with 3rd!!
Joe Zoeller and this writer will "attempt" to turn "talents"
from basketball to baseball on arrival at U-Park next year. Both
consider baseball "the" game. Tim Dougherty is also considering
the same.
The basketball team's agreed consensus is that Coach Bobby
did a more than adequate job. A little more effort on the team's
part could have turned a fair season into a successful one.
Tim Dougherty must have taken more basketball pictures
than the AP and UPI combined.
The Wrestling team has been quite successful considering the
circumstances. Pete Bell is quite an effective grappler.
Anyone who wants any sports news printed, please contact
John Roslevich, Craig Knouse or this writer.
An all-opponent basketball team for Hazleton looks
something like this: Ron Hoffman of Allentown and Monte
Cooney of Burks at guard, Ed Woods of Burks at Center, and
Emil Suchter and Ron Kinsel, both of Scranton, at forward. This
team is of the writer's opinion and any disagreement from the
team is welcome.
This week's trivia question ... the 1950 Philadelphia Phillies
won the pennant with a group of players called the "Whiz Kids."
Can you name their starting infield?
"Come to Harrisburg"
-continued from page one
people will attend regional
workshops to establish contaot
with each other to further the
possibility that the week's
program will lead to further
growth of the movement
communtiy.
There will be a major
cultural event (concert, play,
etc.) each night of the week.
Also during the week there will
be different small group, direct
actions taking place: a
women's action; and action
initiated by a group of
seminarians; and one by the
Vietnam Vets— at various sites
of political significance around
the Harrisburg area. These will
lead up to a mass action on
Friday, March 31, at a local
war institution, the New
Cumberland Amry Depot,
involved in the repairing of
approximately $25 million
worth of C-47 Chinook
helicopters shot down in
Vietnam.
On April 1 there will be
major mass demonstrations
both in Harrisburg and in San
Jose, California (around the
Angela Davis trial), focusing on
political repression at home
and the continued Air War in
Indochina. Over 10,000 people
are expected to participate in
by BILL SCHALLER
the Harrisburg demonstration
which is co-sponsored by the
Harrisburg Defense Committee,
the People's Coalition for
Peace and Justice, and .the
Angela Davis Defense
Committee.
Finally, on April 2, there
will be a Easter Sunrise Service
celebrating the power of the
forces of death.
Now, when our movement
is in a transitional and difficult
period, we hope that from this
trial and from the activities
taking place in Harrisburg
around the trial; new life, new
spirit, new energy and a
renewed commitment to our
own liberation and the
liberation of all people will
emerge. That is not only up to
those of us working in and
around Harrisburg trial. It is up
to you. Will you join us in
Harrisburg? Will you join us in
building a New America and in
resisting the violence of the
old? Will you join us in turning
this trial around and in making
governmental repression not a
set-back but a gift to our
cause?

NEWS
The film of the "Concert
for Bangla Desh" should be in
local theatres by April. The
film is currently being re-shot
from 16 millimeter onto 70
millimeter.
The movie is said to run a
little more than an
hour-and-a-half, and it will be
offered at general admission
prices. The picture is the film
of the benefit concert George
Harrison organized last summer
at Madison Square Garden. The
concert included performances
by Harrison, Eric Clapton,
Leon Russell, Bob Dylan, Ravi
Shankar and Billy Preston. The
profits from the concert as well
as the film will go to the
Bangla Desh refugees' fund.
The movie is being promoted
and distributed by Apple
Records for 20th
Century-Fox.
English rock star Joe
Cocker will launch a six-week
tour of the United States with
a March 15th concert in
Madison Square Garden in New
York.
During the tour which
concludes in Hawaii on May
Ist, Cocker will make a total of
20 appearances in 13 states in
all regions of the country.
A&M Records
announced this week that it
will release an album early next
week that will be available free
to young people who present
voter registration receipts.
"There are 25 million
unregistered voters between
the ages of 18 and 24-years of
age in the country today, and
if there is anything we can do
to make them aware of their
opportunity to register and
vote in the next election, we
shall do so," said Gil Friesen of
A&M.
Friesen saud the double
LP will contain selected cuts
from some of the best A&M
artists, like the Carpenters and
Cat Stevens. Exact plans for
distribution have not been
finalized, but Friesen said the
record will be available through
the mail.
Soul singer Issac Hayes
took delivery of a new car last
Friday in Memphis, Tennessee;
a car he says he just plans to
use around town.
The car is a $26,000
Cadillac. Every piece of
exterior chrome on the car,
from the bumpers to the door
locks, has been gold plated, at
a cost of $B,OOO.
Bob Short, the salesman at
Madison Cadillac in Memphis
who sold the car to Hayes, said
the agency sells more than
1,000 Cadillacs a year, but that
the "Hayes-mobile" is far and
away the most lavish car he has
ever sold.
The car is a peacock-blue
and interior features include a
white shag carpet, blue velvet
seat covers, a Sony television
under the dashboard, a
refrigerated bar and an electric
powered sun roof.
Short said that Hayes was
scheduled to pick up the car
last Wednesday, but apparently
he couldn't make it to the
dealership until Friday.
Roy Rogers and Dale
Evans will ahve a new album
out soon - probably in March
or April, according to Capitol
Records in Nashville.
Roy and Dale will be
backed as usual by the Sons of
the Pioneers. Roy's most
recent single, called "Pass It
On," is apparently selling well.

is titled "Killer". One number

"Dead Babies". During this
number, the lead singer takes a
