PAGE POUR HIGHACRES PERSONALITIES MRS. FERRY Thirteen years ago the Hazle ton campus acquired a new 11- brartian and English teacherS. The trees have grown consider ably since then, other than that Mrs. Ferry sees, ". . that the student, academically, are just as serious but more pressure is being put on them today." Born in Jim Thorpe, Pa., Mrs. Ferry divides her time . between being a librarian, housewife and mother of two active teenagers. in a phrase, she has "a lot to look back on." Not only did she receive an equivilant in a Mas- MRS. FERRY ters of Library Science but be fore that she majored in elemen tary education at Kutztown State College and acquired a B.S. IN SECONDARY EDUCATION AT Muhlenberg College. There is nothing Mrs. Ferry finds discrediting about High acres. She feels that not enough reading is being done but cites one of the reasons for this. "The change from semesters to terms took away the students' leisure time to explore the library and read for relaxation." She does not dream of hoards of biblioman iacs overrunning thi place but she would like to establish a closer contact with the students in order to " . . . help more of them use the library effectively." Since Mrs. Ferry has two teen agers of her own she feels that she can pretty well understand the youth of today and sees most of their problems as being over publicized. "I still have faith in the young people of America, they are more independent and out in the open about things. think this is very good." Mrs. Ferry is looking forward to the expansion of the campus which will include a new library able to hold forty thousand vol umes compared to fifteen thous and in the present library. Her philosophy of life: "Work hard, keep busy, and set periods aside each day for reading." BONNIE BANGOR There is an uncountable num ber of dynamic industrious young people in this world today and Bonnie Bangor from Hazleton, Pa., is one of them. Now a sophomore, Bonnie is majoring in history. Her interest stems from •the reason that "His tory will bring me closer to people, many classes of people, and I will learn how to approach them with better understanding. She is affiliated with various campus activities and is com petent in her duties as President of the Parnassus Honor Society, Vi^e Pres'dent of. Student Gov ernment Affairs and President of the Student Union Board. One of the main voices on campus, she feels "There could be more done here. Students are too wrapped up in their own lives to stop and realize what life is all about." Bonnie's favorite sports are tennis, basketball and football. She likes sincerity in people and is drawn to these "who are unique and original n their own right. I want to find the under lying personalties; not those made by society." Bonnie finds it most discredit ing to be looked upon as a figure- THE HIGHACRES COLLEGIAN head. She also dislikes people's attitudes to groups different than theirs. "People should look back at these individuals, vim their' opinions and try , to understand them before they criticize." Her mood changes to light when she speaks of her parents. "They are more juvenile than I am and also very modern in their sense of understanding." Being a very serious and, sincere individual herself, Bonnie takes heed to the warning "Maturity is great in your youth but just don't grow up too fast." A few of her favorite things are: teasing Dr. Aurand about social affairs of the times, dry humor, being an Italian Republi can, McQuin's poetry set to mu sic, El Greco's art and long walks through state game lands. Bonnie's outlook for the future is to work with students. She plants to master in College Per sonnel.
