highacres upsets behrend to
CAPTURE V.B.C.
Our volleyball team, with only
ten days practice, upset the
top-seeded Commonwealth team,
Behrend, with all out hustle
and spirit to come out victors
in the ten team, double elim
ination tournament, held at
the Main Campus, May 8.
Mr. Leister said that their
were no individual stars, be
cause it was the joint effort
ty each with a touch of luck
that enabled them to emerge
victors.
Their first set was against
Behrend, and Highacres lost
the first game, but upset
them in the remaining two
games. They then went on
to defeat Alto and New
Kinsington in that order.
The only thing in Highacres
way, now, was Behrend, who had
managed to win the losers bra
cket. Living up to the ex
pectations attributed to them,
Behrend dumped us two games
leaving both Highacres and
themselves with one loss a
peice.
In the playoff, Behrend conti
nued their winning streak by
winning the ffest game, but we
bounced back and won the sec
ond game. Now it was up to
the third game to determine a
champion.
When the time limit ran out,
the game was tied 6-6, and the
first team to score two more
points would win. Highacres
scored the first point, but
then lost the serve. However
the great hustle and quick
thinking of Barry Morochko,
saved . the day, and Highacres
won the serve back without
Behrend scoring. We then went
on to score the second point
winning the match and the tour
nament .
All of us here at Highacres
would like to give our thanks
to Spencer Booth, Bob Kampner,
Larry Daukis, Bill Johnson,
Tom Wargo, Barry Morochko, and
coach, A 1 Leister,for a
well done.
HIGHACRES SLASHES TO VICTOR!
Victory was our destiny at the
1966 Intercampus League Champ
ionship Playoffs held at
University Park Campus on April
29-30. Our magnificent bowling
team held a 6 game winning
streak to place first at the
playoffs with a total of 42
points and 15,912 pins just to
make things look good.
Giving credit where credit is
due, our chess boys are in
line for some. They became
victorious with 7 games won,
0 lost, and 2 games tied. A
total of 8 points as cpmpared
to the 5-| points scored by the
second-place Mont Alto team
was an added attraction.
The story was-not the same for
the table tennis team, as they
placed only fourth in the
competition with 2 games won,
and 2 games lost. We can't
have everything.
Anyone wishing to feast their
eyes on the first place tro
pheys may do so in Mr. MeCallus
office.
The line is forming now, so
don't delay.
