Student Council Meets
The first me ting of the Student
Council was held in Room 208,
fourth period on Friday, October 7,
with President Kowalski presiding.
Mr. Mattern congratulated the
victorious candidates and cautioned
them to guard against'ignoring
the great talent in the student
body.
After this, Student Council elected
Theresa Bobowski as its secretary
and Ray Bittner as its Treasurer*
Theresa immediately began recording
the minutes of the meeting.
In order to aid Council in performing
its many tasks, Student Council
created the following committees
for the coming years
Social Committee - to plan,
organize, and gonduct such social
activities as Council might deem
advisable to hsld, (Kowalski,
Bobowski, Tihansky, Smith,
Zemany, Smulyan, and Sherry*)' ’•
Sports Committee - to manage all
intercoliegiate sport activities
as council might decide to hold,
(Probert, Tuchi, Rimm, Ditzler,
Salata, Rekos)
Traffic Committee - Smith, Sti sh,
Tomko, Brungard, Defina*
House Rules Committee - to aid
Mrs. Kostenbauder in managing the
Student Recreation Hall, (Marsicano,
Scarlato, Ditzler, Brungard, Rimm,
Sacco, Sukenik, Mastroianni.)
S«U .3.. Committee - to work on in
creasing the college's Student Union
Building Fund. (Kowalski, Reese, Rimm)
Student Faculty Board - (Kowalski.,
Bobowski, Stish, Tihansky)
Two special committees were created
to poll the student body on their
desires for sport and social ac
tivities for the coming year. These
HAZLETON COLLEGIAN
committees are to sample student
preferences and report to Council
at its next meeting.
The committees are*
Sports - Stish, Sukenik, Kresge,
Tarone.
Social - Marsicano, Smulyan, Salada.
A suggestion was made and accepted to
invite Mr. Peightal and anyone interested
in the basketball problem to attend
the next meeting of Council when this
issue is to be discussed. All the
clubs are to submit an itemized budget
request for the coming year to either
Mr. Mattern or Mr. Longo before s*oo
p.m. on Thursday, October Iji.
Theresa Bobowski asked about the pos
sibility of scheduling the first dance
for Friday, October 14. The Social
Committee was instructed to begin
preliminary work on this idea and
to report at the next meeting. With
this, the meeting was adjourned until
next week.
