Stork has Busy Week '■
Mrs. Walter Carper, wife of Captain
Falter Carper, gave birth to a 6
lb- baby girl 2530 P. 11, on
Thursday, September 22, at the
St. Joseph Hospital:, They have
already decided on a name for the
girl - Leslie* Although the
Captain remained in school all
day Thursday, expressing the
philosophy that a man shouldn't
get all worked up over one of
life's little phenomena. He
has confessed to having been
quite "shook" that day. Mother,
child, and father are doing well
and mother and child are expected
home 'Wednesday, the 28th.

On Tuesday, September 27, at
Ui4o P. M. in St, Joseph
Hospital, Hazleton, Mrs. John
A. Longo gave birth to a 7 lb.
6 oz, baby boy, The new boy
has been named John n. jr.
The new addition to the family
makes a total of three children
for the Longo*sj John A. jr-,
Mary Katherine and Gerard Joseph.
Mrs. Mary Margaret Longo is the
former Dean of Women of Highacres.
She also taught Math, at High
acres from 1947 until 1950.,
Mr, John A. Longo, sr. is the
accounting and commerce instructor
at Highacres, as well as financial
advisor to the Student Councils

When classes opened on September 19,
the biggest student body, si nee the
World War II G.. I, Bill, began in
struction for the fall semester,
Of the 311 enrolled, men outnumbered
women 8 .si, there being 276 men
and 35 women.-.
The biggest enrollment was in the
engineering courses with a total of
75 menj the smallest in Home
Economics with a total of two women.
Two new Instructors were added this
year , They are Andrew Kafka,
instructor in English Composition}
and Thomas Mott, instructor in
mathemati cs.,
All in all it has been a banner year
for the Center.
Announcement
Any student who does not have a
handbook, stop in at Mr. Noble's
office, and get one. Sophomores
will be interested in th- new
grading system whp'ch was in
stituted this year*
