The eighth annual Convocation Dinner-Dance will be held in.the. Pennsylvania
Room of Genetti's on Tuesday, June 7, at 6*oo pm«. This affair is similar to gra ua i i
since awards, certificates and i-ecognitions are given and since l .. o ■
of the school year. Following the banquet will be the Convocation program at which
time awards will be givan, college songs will be sung, and remarks will be made. De n
0. R. if&cKshZie of the College of Business Administration of our University will be
the main speaker.
This year's Sophomore two-year Tech students will be the first class to have
completed the Associate Engineer's course, which was initiated 1n 1953. These hoys,
who are enrolled in Drafting and Design and Electrical Technology, will be graduated
from our main campus at State College with the other campus graduates on June 13.
Special recognition will be given to these boys, since they are actually graduating
from our Center.
After the program, the tables will be removed and the floor made ready for
dancing to the Royalairs until 12;00.
Convocation is a school affair and no charge is made to students, but if you
plan to attend, and you should, then get your reservation ticket from Miss Williams
now.
The Student Council appropriated 50 dollars from Student Government Funds for
the field-day, which was held under the jurisdiction of the House Rules Committee
on May 11, from 3*oo pm until 6:00 pm at the Highacres athletic field.
The Council voted to accept Mr. Mattern's recommendation that the Vice-President
of the Freshman Class should now become a member of the Council, as well as becoming
Freshman Class President, This means that Cal Smith has taken the place of David
Drasher, who withdrew from the Center,
The Council voted 30 dollars from the miscellaneous fund to be given to
Parnassus for a plaque to be placed In the library dedicating it as a memorial for
the students from the Center who lost their lives in WSif 11.
Mr. Longo, financial advisor, stated that the budget closed on May 13, as all
cancelled checks must be sent to the main campus before the end of the semester.
The Council passed the motion that all students' and staff members'Convocation
dinners be paid for with Student Government Funds. Since the Chorus will sing at
Convocation, the Council decided to pay for the dinners of chorus members who are not
from the Center. Further information is given in an adjoining article.
The Council decided to allow Mary Frances Veale and Russ Brungard to recommend
persons for positions on the Interim Council, as they are the only two members of
Student Council who will be attending the Center next year.
The Council intends to hold an all-day free picnic on Sunday, June 5. More
information on the picnic will be published at a later date.
