In just a few days, bur finals will be over and -we. will saying goodbye to
Highacres and closing the doors and books ant'’ 1 next September. Many of us are
looking forward to this welcome vacation before returning in the fall for another
nine months of work.
However, there are those among us who will never again sit in the Highacres
classrooms, or talk and laugh in halls, lounge or Rec Hall. <fe shall no longer
see the familiar smiling faces of these students at our dances, parties and
picnics. New students will have to be appointed to fill the offices that will be
left vacant and to carry on the work of activities and clubs for the coming
year.
A man once stated that the hardest problem he had to face in this world was
the problem of saying goodbye to his friends. By this token, we, who are remaining
at Highacres would like to say farewell to those who are leaving. We do not
want to say goodbye, but just farewell until we meet again. Our memories of
you will remain, and we shall look forward with anticipation to the day when we
will meet again.
Farewell, good-luck and the best of everything to all of you who are leaving
us this year.
Tonight at 8:00 pm in our main lounge, the Parnassus Honor Society will initia
five new members, one Sophomore and four Freshmen. After the formal ceremony, re
freshments will be served. Then all members will proceed to elect, from the ten
highest vote-getters as a result of Monday's election, the most valuable Sophomore .
Freshman.
During this past week, the five pledges had to as part of their initiation, we
Parnassus hats with the green and white pledgeship emblem. After tonight's formal
ceremony, the yellow membership emblem will replace the one denoting the pledge.
The five new members to be taken into the Society tonight are Ilona Whitman,
Sophomore, and Freshmen Russell Brungard, Lois Carper, Lawrence Kowalski, and Mary
Franes Veale. The program will be in charge of Jack Burggraf, President. Lillian
M. Junas, Vice-President, will read the charge and Secretary Mary Jane Skoff will
give the oath of acceptance. Shirley Ray will tell of the significance and origin
of Parnassus, while Arthur Teel and Paul Augustine will serve as ushers.
On Monday afternoon at 4:00, a group of people left from Highacres to attend a
rehearsal of the Bach Choir in Bethlehem. Music students and others from Highacres
and Hazleton enjoyed the program very much. Those who attended were: Lois Carper,
Robert Zimmerman and Joe Fierro from Music 6 classj Joe Pavone, Andrew Gaydos,
Anthony Spock, Zello Sherry, Joe McCallus and Jean Snyder, from Music 5 class; Mr,
Grubbs, Barbara Grubbs, Miss Dossenbach, Miss Garbrick and Miss Ester Shenk, Hazlet’
Public Library librarian.
