On May 21, the annual Armed Forces Day parade
will be held in Hazleton. ./This year, manX ons have been
planned to make the day morej ./interesting and more\ leant to every
one. A one-hour parade has I ./£een planned wi th a jet X. j fly-over during the
day. The parade, which will istart at 1:30, will move from McKenna 1 s Corner
in West Hazleton to the end of Broad Street in Hazleton. The Hazleton Center Detachmei
of ROTC will march in the parade, with the drill team marching in lead position so
that their different routines can be executed effectively. On Sunday, May 22, the
Hazleton Airport will be dedicated, with a Brig. Gen. from the Marines, slated as the
principle speaker. At the airport, the Navy has placed two aircraft, an AD type and
an F2F Grumman fighter. These planes will be on display all day with ramps provided
to enable people to look into the planes. The Air Force is flying a C--45 and 47
into the airport on that day and 37 of the cadets plus several members of the faculty
will be going on flights in these planes during the day.
This coming Saturday, the Drill Team will serve as the Honor Guard for the
crowning of the queen. The boys, decked in their white accessories, will stand at
attention to the side of the procession with the clanking of rifles and snappy move
ments, and later several light-footed members will take part in the dancing on the
green.
The annual AFROTC Awards will be given out on Monday, May 23* These awards are
given each year to cadets who have distinguished themselves during the past year.
There will be two medals given, one each for the outstanding Freshman and the out
standing Sophomore cadet, the Convair Trophy given to the cadet, either Sophomore or
Freshman, who has distinguished himself in all activities, and a dx*ill team citation
given to the cadet who has shown the most interest and ability in the drill team
activities.
This seems to be the saying of all the teachers here at Highacres lately. Before
too many more days pass, you'll probably hear the teachers reciting this little verse
in class and their answer won't be long in coming.
In just two short weeks, the final exams will begin. The schedule for these
exams has been published and is not available in the main office. Pick up a copy
and check it for your exams. If you find any conflicting schedules, please notify
the main office before May 18.
