announced that the affair was a total success and that the approximate
cost was $93*20. Veale and Carper will replace loti to and Harry on
the Social Committee for the Spring semester. Veale reported there was
a very poor turn-out for the last dancing class and, stated that if we
can't creat interest in them, we should drop them, as it wasn't fair
to ask faculty members to give up their free evenings for nothing.
THE PRESIDENT SPEAKS
I, Stan Gruszewski, President of the Student Council, would like to
take this opportunity to report to the student body the progress of the
Student Government Association in the Fall semester, 54 & 55.
The Student Government has been functioning the entire 1955 Fall semester
and has conducted regular meetings every second Yfednesday at B*oo AM in room
M-208. Any student having problems or desiring to offer suggestions
was invited to attend these meetings, as no sutdents, other than the
Council members, have been present, T am under the assumption that
conditions at the Center are satisfactory.
The one major problem which had been called to the attention of the
Student Council members was the limited parking facilities. After discussion
of the situation, the Student Council realized it was impossible for it to
provide a solution. The proper authorities are aware of the dilemma and
are doing everything possible to remedy the conditions.
T and the other members of the Student Council cannot understand the
lack of spirit and interest in Highacres on the part of the students.
Every single one of us has payed towards the Student Government Funds
but few take advantage of the benefits obtained by it. Throughout the
semester, attendance at and participation In the many and varied activities
have been poor. I suggest we all get together and create some real college
spirit for the Spring semester. Please don't hesitate to offer any
suggestions you have to improve the Center.
On Friday, February 25, at I*2o PM, In S-101, the Sociology 5 class
will hear a guest speaker, Dr. Din, a surgeon at the Hazleton State
Hospital. Dr. Din, who is a native of Pakistan, will talk about the
culture and people of his country. Dr, Din spoke at the Center last year,
and those who heard him, agree he was worth listening to.
Although Dr. Din will speak during the regular Sociology class period,
everyone is invited to hear him. It isn't very often that Highacres*
students get a chance to hear a guest speaker, so let's fill S-101 with an
interested audience.
