Page Four - Construction on the new Food-Service building is nearing com pletion. Dorm students returning in the fall may anticipate a more effective cafeteria center at their disposal. New Dormitory To Open in Fall Construction on the new food service building and residence hall at Behrend Campus is nearing completion. The buildings will be ready for use Fall Term. General contracting work is about completed. The job will soon be in the hands of the electrical contractors, plumbers and painters. The new dormitory is con siderably larger than the present two. The new rooms are the same size as the ones in use now. Centralized on the second floor of the three-story structure will be a television room with two ad joining multi-purpose rooms. Other recreation facilities will be located in a large room in the Circle K Meets In Pittsburgh Nine members of the Circle K Club of Behrend, will represent this Campus at the PENN SYLVANIA District Convention in Pittsburgh, Pa. on April 23, 24, and 25. At the Convention, elections will be held for the District of fices and the Division Lt. Governors. Lt. Governor and President Bill Starn will seek the office of Governor of the Penn sylvania District, while Secretary Jack Richebacher is a nominee for the District Department Cuts Cited Undergraduate majors in various colleges of the University are being discontinued in ac cordance with the restructuring of programs. The option in teaching the emotionally and socially affected will be dropped by the College of Education beginning with Summer Term. A special education minor to take its place will train students as general special educators rather than teachers equipped to work with specific disabilities. The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences discontinued the major in fuel science in January and will discontinue the major in fuel science in January and will discontinue the major in mineral preparation engineering in July. Majors in botany and zoology in -the College of Science will be dropped beginning with Summer Term in favor of a single major in biology. This action is intended to allow students more flexibility in planning their programs, sim plify advising, and make the structure of the department more consistent with that of other departments. v * basement. The north wall of tfie recreation room is bordered by windows which overlook the campus. Indications show that the new dorm will be coed. Men and women will be housed in separate wings. Resident hall students will be using the new dining hall in the fall. The grill and snack bar will remain in the Reed Union Building for use by commuters. The new dining hall is larger than the present one and views the campus through large win dows on opposite walls. Kitchen facilities will be greatly im proved and serve the campus more adequately. Secretary. Both will be returning to Behrend next Fall. New resolutions and by-laws will be voted upon by delegates to the convention. The two delegates representing Behrend Campus Circle K will be Jim Raffetto and Nelson Smith. The projects undertaken locally by the Circle K Club this past year have met with con siderable success, such as work with St. Joseph’s Orphanage, the used book sale, peanut sale, car wash, candy sale, etc., all due to the splendid cooperation of faculty and students. Future projects will be a hoagie sale and further work with the Orphanage. Players will compete against the house at such games as poker, blackjack, chuck-a-luck, craps, and various wheels, in an attempt to gain more money. The activities will com mence at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, and in clude a floor show at in termission. The night will end with an auction, when prizes (records, mugs, T-shirts, etc.) will be auctioned to the highest bidder. The Quiet Lounge and Seminar Room in the Reed Union Building will be the scene of all the fun. Ad mission will be $l.OO and $.50 for activity card holders. This charge entitles a player to $5,000 gambling money, while extra money will be available for $.25 for $2,000. The public is invited to attend. ’Strangler’ On Campus The Boston Strangler, the shocking, bizarre story of the homicidal schizophrenic who. terrorized Boston for two years is the Student Union Board’s movie of the week. This semidocumentary film traces the thirteen sex murders, the massive police investigation leading to the arrest of a kindly, af fectionate father and husband who is subject to maniacal fits, and finally, the complete mental deteriorization of the killer. The Boston Strangler stars Tony Curtis, Henry Fonda, George Kennedy, Mike Kellin, and is directed by Richard Fleisher. Strangler will be shown on Sunday, April 25 at 7:00 and 9:15 p.m. in the R.U.B. Lecture Hall. Admission is 50c with activity card and $l.OO without. Parking Lot Expansion Approved by University The University’s Board of Trustees has tentatively approved the construction of 110 additional student parking places at Behrend Campus at a cost of $68,000. These funds are made available from interim and short-term sources with such funds to be restored from student parking fees. A little simple arithmetic ($68,000-110-$22.50) indicates that, exclusive of routing maintenance and plowing, about 27V2 years will pass before the cost of each space ($618) is restored. Cwens is conducting a combination Coffee House and Fashion Show on Friday evening, April 23, at 8 p.m. in the cafeteria. Clothes will be modeled from Benson’s and Ed Parks; wig display by Hair Fair. Behrend students will model the clothes. Admission is 75 cents. Refreshments and music by Scott Huntington will be provided. Everyone is welcome to attend this affair. Car Rally' There will be a car rally at Beaver Campus sometime late in May. If there is anybody that would enjoy participating in the events see Mr. Fiorentino. The entry fee is set at $3 per car and interested parties must provide their own transportation and costs. Prizes will be awarded. The transfer procedure from Behrend to Main Campus had its effect felt on the Women’s Residence Council. New members are: V.P. Sandy Roll, Treasurer, Elaine Chandler, Ist Floor East Alternate, Connie Covert, 3rd Floor West Alternate, Debby McCall. These people need your support in performing their duties. The 1971 Announcement and application form for the Medical College Admission Test are available in Mr. Goetz’s office. All students intending to go on to Medical School are required to take this test; it might therefore be advisable for them to familiarize themselves with the content of this test as well as the testing dates and times. S-U Option Satisfactory-Unsatisfactory Option forms are now being ac cepted in Mr. Goetz’s office. Students are reminded that they should check with the Dean’s Representative for their respective college before scheduling ANY course in this manner. Associate Degree students are reminded that they will not be permitted to schedule ANY COURSE for S-U credit. Pre-registration for both the Fall and Summer Term will take place during the week of May 10.
