Page Four SPORTS CORNER It’s come and gone, and most of Joe Frazier’s fans are as happy as ever, but for Ali’s fans, a small faction of Frazier’s followers and those of us who didn’t lean one way or the other it left a dull taste. A decision just didn’t make a clear-cut case. It left something to be desired, whereas, a knockout would have settled the matter in everybodys mind. Listening to the radio’s round-by-round summary one couldn’t help but get excited through the early rounds. You could vision the two fighters landing crunching blows in rapid fire to their opponents Body. You were waiting for somebody to land the big punch, someone to end it all, but as the later rounds drew near you could sense that horrible thought, “Oh, no, a decision.” Frazier raised hope in the eleventh and twelfth rounds with his staggering blows to Muhammed’s head, but it just wasn’t to be. wasn’t to be. The fight had been built up by the news media to such a height that boxing fans were in a daze. They were waiting for two fighters to barrage each other with punches until one hit the canvas. Those fans were left em pty handed. There were'thoughts of a rematch im mediately following the fight, even though both men had previously said this was the end of the line. Had it been a KO the cries would have been silenced, no doubts would have been left in anybody’s mind... Sidney Wicks of UCLA, Charles J. The loss dropped the Lions’ season record to 10-11 and kept Bach from getting his 300th coaching victory. The Lion coach now has a 21-year record of 299 wins and 225 losses, including a 36-31 record in three seasons at Penn State. Penn State faces Rutgers next and in addition Penn State has had very little success on the road this season. The Lions are 2- 8 on the opposition’s court and 8-3 at home. Bach probably will go with the same lineup he has used the last six games. That alignment has Chuck Crist and Bill Kunze at the forwards, Paul Neumayer at center and Ron Kodish and Bruce Mello at guard. Kunze is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 16.2 points per game. The Lions have balanced scoring from Mello (12.0), Crist (10.0), Neumayer (9.7), and Kodish. Bach went to sophomore Dan Tarr when Crist got into early foul trouble at Kent State. Tarr responded with a 14 point effort. If Tarr plays, he will be up against former high school teammate Gene Armstead.
