Behrend Machine
Plans Bounce-back
“You just can’t win ball games
shooting 31 pef cent and 33 per
cent. Make no mistake about it,
we played two of the finest teams
in the commonwealth. We just
had a couple of frustrating
games, that’s all.” This was the
comment of Coach Malkin after
the weekend losses which
dropped Behrend’s record to 4 - 7.
Last Friday Behrend played
New Kensington, a team which
has everything; speed,
rebounding and excellent outside
•'hooting. It was the duo of Jim
Cousar (29 points) and Frank
Flowers (24 points), that led New
Kensington to a9l -63 win. Gary
Borowy led Behrend with 21
points and 11 rebounds. Also
hitting double figures were Ike
Burnett (12 points) and Glenn
McKinney (13points).
On Saturday it was more of the
same as Fayette placed four men
in double figures and won easily
90 - 64. Arnie Belt led Fayette
with 25 points, receiving scoring
support from teammates Ray
Hearn (20 points), Gary Harrison
(16 points), Mr. Consistency,
once again led Behrend with 21
points and 13 rebounds. After
watching the games, however, it
is evident that Borowy can’t do it
all by himself.. He needs more
support under the boards to take
a little of the pressure off of him.
Glenn McKinney (13 points) and
Ike Burnett (11 points) also hit
twin-figures for Behrend.

Opener
The girls’. basketball team
dropped their season opener 35 -

dependents. In the scrimmage
type game, Mrs. Laundenstack,
girls’ coach, was more interested
in providing her girls with
valuable experience than in
winning the independent game.
The starting five consists of
sharpshooter Julia Sovero (16
points), playmaker Jean Bovard,
Lucy Sweely 02 points), Diane
Rossman (4 points), and the
team’s rebound artist Janice
Koester (2 points). Also seeing
action were Diane Klimas (2
points), Nancy Spahn and Denise
Burek. One of the starting five,
Karen Wentz, will be out for two
weeks with a hand in jury.
League action starts Friday
night at 6:00 p.m. against Gannon
at Erie Hall. The following day
the girls journey to University
Park to compete in a tournament
with the other commonwealth
campuses.
