BEHREND CAMPUS OF PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY
last year, and also new issues
which have arisen this year.
Doug Brower, regional co
ordinator, presided over the
conference. He had this to say,
“This conference concerned
itself with more pertinent issues,
and accomplished more than any
other regional I have attended or
known of in the past three years.”
The new issues which have
been-brought to the forefront are:
P-25, a regional secretary and
treasurer, and a regional
newsletter.
Specific proposals were drawn
up by Ken Mushrush (Behrend
Rep.) and Jim Aschom
(Assistant Regional Rep.)
concerning Senate rule P-25.
These proposals will be sent down
state with a request for Senate
interpretation on the rule, pen
ding further action.
The regional also proposed and
adopted the positions of regional
secretary and treasurer to
facilitate the operations of the
S.G.A.’s on the regional level.
Also initiated, was the idea of a
regional newsletter. This
newsletter would contain items of
particular interest to S.G.A.'s
and serve as an added means of
communication between cam
puses: "
The conference also
established a list of O.S.G.A.
priorities ■ for the West-Penn
Region. These items include:
Jim Wrenn (Regional Rep.)
will work on the possibility of
extending meal ticket rights to all
Penn State Campuses.
Jim Aschom will work on the
Inter-Governmental Relations
Act, which provides for the ex
change of representatives bet
ween U.D.G. (Undergraduate
Democratic Government) and
O.S.G.A.
The Inter-College Council
Board will be handled down state
by Alice Reidman.
Bob Misko will be gathering
information concerning Z-13, and
forming a report.
Information will be gathered
by Nancy Markley concerning
Associate graduation, and the
economic feasibility and student
response to the idea will be
assembled.
The work of this conference
and its proposal will be extended
to the state conference
(November 6 and 7). O.S.G.A.
has three more state conferences
and two regional conferences,
and if they follow through on
these issues, they should be kept
quite busy and have a very
productive year.

CUB Staff Writer
Dr. John W. Oswald, President
of Penn State University, made
Ms first visit to the Behrend
Campus last Wednesday (Oc
tober 22) to formally dedicate the
new Edwin W. Nick Classroom-
Laboratory Building, and to in
formally talk with students,
faculty, and administration.
Although Ms relatively short six
hour visit was crammed and
hustled by dedication ceremonies
and rap sessions, his eagerness to
communicate with everyone was
evident throughout the day, and
Ms real human, down-to-earth
approach was met favorably by
everyone.
The visit began at 2:30 in the
RUB with an informal meeting
with students. There Dr. Oswald
extended a welcome to all
students, and after a short speech
he opened the sessions to
questions from the floor. He
pointed out that of 9000 entering
freshmen this year, 6000 are
attending Commonwealth
Campuses, and within the next
few years one-half of all the
students that receive their
baccalaureate degrees from
Penn State will have attended a
Commonwealth Campus for at
least part of their work at Penn
State. As he has in the past, he
again emphasized the
relationship between the main
campus and the Commonwealth
Campuses, that of a sameness in
the quality of education, and yet
autonomy on each campus.
He also spoke of his attempts to
develop “ways and means” to
relate to students. He has ap
pointed two faculty assistants
and two student assistants who
serve on Ms executive staff.
These assistants are serving as a
direct link in communication
between students and faculty,
which will undoubtedly aid in
uncovering and solving many
problems. .
There were several questions
which were tossed at him from
the floor, all of wMeh he handled
with complete fairness and
thoroughness in his response.
Among these, he most heavily
favored the idea of Associate
Graduation on each campus. The
idea being that it is more feasible
to graduate at the campus where
the student has done all his work,
rather than traveling to
