Therefore, it is possible that in a relatively short time the over productivity of Lake .Erie can be come self-suStaining because of this ever-increasing reserve." "It is also pOisible that if this alarming process grows, Lake Erie may faCe a sadden biological cata clysm that will exhaust, for all times, most of the oxygen in. the greater part of the lake. The students have also cited that, in the long run, the corn plete reduction of pollutants ac culating on the bottom of the lake and in the harbor will involve bet ter sewage treatment and better industrial •waste control. As 'of this writing, the Erie City Council has • approved the students' resolution and have plans in the future to adopt it. The council has also endorsed the legislation that is going 'before the State and Federal legislature on water pollution. His resignation speech follows: "Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powerS from the consent of the governed . . . But when a long train of abuses . evinces .a de sign to reduce them under abso lute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government." Tis - statement has been taken from the Declaration of Independ ence and I - feel that these words apply appropriately to the cur rent situation in our own SGA. They speak of deriving powers *from the consent of the govern ed as our SGA derives its powers. It speaks of 'Despotism or to those who don't understand the meaning of the word, rule by a tyrant. And it speaks of the right and. duty of those such oppressed to throw off such a government. Yes, all of these apply to our own SGA. Throughout the entire year we have spoken of representatives' be ing representatives, not only to themselves but to the entire stu dent body. In this respect our SGA has much to be desired. All too frequently action has been Cwens Plains Sister Program Remember. how mixed up and confused you were as, incoming freshmen? Did you ever wish you had a "big sister" to help you out? All too frequently has our SGA involved itself with trivial issues, at times giving them precedence over th majr ones. All too fre quently have our SGA members placed themselves before the stu dents they, in theory, represent— all too frequently have members missed mee ings for such unde fendable reasons. All too frequen tly are members only members during meetings. Vital issues have arisen and been placed neatly under the rug to be forgotten. It - is for all of us not only to look back on the things we have done, but rather to look back on the things we have not done. It is for the SGA to try in the remaining three weeks to remedy this situation. I do not say that I am not a part of the situation which now exists in our SGA or that I did not have something to do with that problem as it stands now. What I do say is that I can not sit idly by and watch this problem go unsolved and remain stagnant. I will not turn my back on the situation but I will seek to ap proach it from a different view point. What I do hope is that what I am now about to do has some effect on our current SGA, Flo Szymanski Woman Receives Turnbull Award Flo Szymanski,a sixth term General Arts and Sciences Major, is the recipient of the 1970 Turn bull Award, the highest award presented to a Behrend student. In pursuit of these goals, The Stu dent Government Association shall be dedicated to the principle of academic freedom and to the realization of the fullest possible educotian for Behrend students. r Let the SGA recognize this pur pose and seek to realize it.
